You had me at hello. Only solution is a complete assembly, wait for a surplus from a wreck to come up, or this. And this is cheap and easy, comparatively.

As the bolt has not moved in over 1,000 miles, I’m not concerned about it. I just check it and make sure it hasn’t moved. This is such a low stress bolt that I may helicoil it and call it good.
A Helicoil/Time-sert thread is stronger than threads cut in aluminum. We used to put Time-serts in new aluminum plate bolt holes for Navy applications. Problem is a Time-sert kit to do the first couple holes was about $60. Parts to do subsequent holes were really cheap compared to that.

Got my upper triple in from ebay. Despite the previous owner using a combination of blue AND red loctite, I got the ignition security bolts out.
On going through my bolts I might have figured out why I stripped it out in the first place. It's a case of "One of these things is not like the others."
Not sure where that guy on the right came from originally but that was the one in my triple. Torqued to factory specifications with a shorter than factory bolt is a recipe for failure. Will have to watch out for that in the future. Likely somewhere in the bike is a longer than factory bolt, but that one seems to be doing fine. For those wondering, the bolts on the left are for the smaller hole for the handlebars where they attach to my MV Motorrad plate.

Just a WAG Jasen, I'd check front axle pinch bolts for the longer fastener.

I get it, but it's an ignition switch..... a little loctite blue and 10-12 ft. lbs. plenty....
What torque you using.... the OEM bolts, snug til the heads twist off..... can't really be that much.

It was the left upper pinch bolt that stripped out. The triple I bought off ebay had the crap you see above, which I had to remove to put my ignition on. I only could see the red before trying to remove it. I've broken extractors before and was a little nervous. I didn't see the need for both the red and blue though, but whatever, it's done now.

Maybe one was residual from the factory, the other used by the previous owner?

Changed out the feckin stiff sidewalled rear T31 bitch and replaced with a PR4 rear I hope to get 6k out of for the upcoming NAFO trip. Wish me luck.
PS- ive replaced T30s before, and I thought id replaced T31s as well. Getting that bitch on and off was no fun. No more T31s for me...and it only gave me 3300 miles.
The T31 is what is on the back of the bike and thought it was stiff until warm. Not liking the T31 also.

I think I have run most of the Bridgestone sport touring tires - BT023, T30, T30 EVO, T31 and while I have not loved them, they have been OK. Never had a horrible time mounting them. Used to run Michelin PR2 rear with BT023 front a fair amount. I have a set of the new T32 GT waiting in the wings for the next change. Will be interesting to see if there is any change/improvement. Have been running Dunlop RS3 for the last few years...

I don't like the T31 or T30 Evo GT or non on the rear. But I really liked my first and only T31GT front. T30 Evo front is OK but wearing faster than expected.

I used the Bridgestone fronts with the PR2 rears because the PR2 front sucked. Liked the PR2 rear better than the Bridgestone.

Well - I've made it to the middle of August. Now surely only about 4-ish more weeks of total sauna before decent riding weather gets here.
Of course, the hurricane bullshit is starting.
.
I need a ride, man. I need a "pack your shit, lick your finger and hold it in the air, and then go there and don't look back" ride.....

Took a nice ride to help finish off the current tires so I can put the new ones on before EOM. Found a cool place to try for some calendar shots.

This weekend:
Prepped the new upper Triple by pulling the old ignition studs, cleaned it up, and installed my ignition into it with regular cap head bolts. I bought the safety nuts but after drilling and pulling two sets (one from the new triple and getting my ignition off the old one) I decided to stick with something easy. After all, the thieves don't know I have it and it doesn't really deter them, and a 90K mile motorcycle won't bring them much cash anyways.
Installed forks that I had rebuilt from Traxxion, finally.
New NGK Iridium spark plugs installed. Wasn't much more for the iridiums so I went with them.
Changed the pumpkin fluid.
New T31 tires installed. I decided to do this early Saturday before the heat hit. Got both tires done before 11am, but it was still blazing hot. The sun helped make the tires softish, as soft as T31's can be, but it beat down on me something awful. Good thing I got it all wrapped up early, because a storm blew through that dropped the temps down to 72F. Heaven forbid I change tires when it's nice out.
Put some Fobo T-Valve stems in while I did that and added the Fobo Bike 2 TPMS system to it. Figured since I had the issue with my stem and lost a lot of pressure on the way home from Florida and messed up the tire, I'd rather know sooner next time so hopefully this is a worthwhile investment.
Busy weekend. Even went washing machine/dryer shopping with the wife. She's happy and not saying anything about the amount of money I've been spending lately so we are all good.

Yesterday, while it was baking outside, went through the bags and cleaned out the detritus of rides past; I was surprised at the number of beer coozies I'd collected. This morning, before the storms and heat set in, I took the bike out for a brief shakedown to make sure all was well for departure to NAFO this Friday.
Upon my return, the S10 was looking to get in on the fun, so I took it out for a little jaunt as well...probably good seeing as how it'll be sitting for a couple of weeks while its older cousin plays.

gixxerjasen,
Okay, I tend to expect the worst, at least in some cases. I would not use the OEM security screws either, but I would replace them with Allen heads. If they were not black headed screws, I would paint the heads black. Once installed, then fill the Allen recesses with black RTV. Anybody who looks will see OEM security screws, because that would be expected there. If you ever need to remove the screws, it's an easy swipe with a scalpel to clean out the RTV for maintenance. Amazon has scalpel-handle plus blade deals, for pocket change. The #11 scalpel blade is like the X-acto #11 blade, which would do the same job. You can buy a grundle of scalpel blades for the same price as a few X-acto blades.
