I use my FJR for day trips only and cross-country trips on 2 laner roads, so the 80mph works for me, if I want it for a little bit, on the 55mph posted roads.
Mine is more of a daily rider when whatever I'm carrying on any given day will comfortably fit. The southern portion of Charlotte's outer loop isn't anywhere near urban. It's mostly farmland and forest out from the city. Sure beats the alternatives- going back onto congested city/suburban streets to head more northerly (the way I needed) or riding significantly farther out of the way south. Plus I've found the bypass loops around many cities to be a fun and exciting way to maintain one's high speed slalom skills.

Anywho, took a nice warm nighttime ride last night to adjust LED headlight bulbs.

You animal. I know you do it by hand. You wouldn't be interested in a cycle hill changer would ya?

I broke down and bought Ray's HF a couple years back. No way I'd want to mount T32s on the floor with spoons.

Rode it up to mow lawn at my folks place. Then played "dodge-bambi" on the way home. ABS is awesome. LED aux lights are awesomer.

Now, just need to call Deagle10 and schedule a wash and detailing appointment...

I have a foam cannon too - works great for soaking bug guts and road grime...

I have used combination wash/wax products before and was happy with the results. After a couple of years of using the wash/wax I needed to do some paint touch up so I used a wax remover to get down to bare paint. The area that I stripped was a remarkably different in color from the rest of the car. Apparently, over time, ever so slowly the dirt that didn't get removed got waxed over in layers each time my car was washed. It happened so slowly that it wasn't noticeable until I stripped the wax.

CollingsBob's product may be different, no experience with it, but just sayin' there is the possibility of dirt entrapment by the wax/ceramic coating.

I doubt when I look at my bike I am seeing the true color, as I wash it less that I should?
In my defense, my '13 was delivered to me by a hooligan/madman that rode it HARD (FJR nominal), and put it away wet (after riding through tornados/thunderstorms) just to get it to my door.

I will likely wash it tonight with all this talk about washing, but I am proud of my bike as she stands-dirty or not. Every time I look at her I see the lengths that people went to get me back on an FJR.

The Geezer scale:

10 - paint can't be seen anyplace on the motorcycle, Geezer norm
1 - spotless, factory fresh appearance

My FJR is currently about 6 to 7 on the Geezer scale. Now that it looks like the likelihood of freezing is past I just turned on the outside water and put out hoses. Guess I have no excuse not to wash my bike now.

My FJR was officially "Cerulean Silver," but now it resembles "Southern Bugs"

Jasen did you hit any love bugs?

April through May is generally the first season. Some years they are so thick you have to stop and clean your windshield and visor after about an hour. This year knock on wood I have seen just a few here and there. Certainly no swarms.

I hate those bugs. They stick like nothing else, plus they eat right through your paint if you leave them on.

Growing up in Florida, I'm quite familiar with them. Oddly, the only love bugs I saw was the ones that landed on the sidewalk next to me while I ate my lunch in Shreveport Louisiana. I collected plenty of others.

I'm not sure which is worse though, Love Bug season in Florida, or just riding through Wyoming. This is Wyoming, and I'd just cleaned my helmet super shiny at the previous gas stop.

^^^^^^^^That right there is what's always baffled me about people that ride naked bikes and wear open face helmets. I guess they rarely go further than Starbucks?

:withstupid:

In April (see above) of 1997, took the wife and kids in the family truckster with a rooftop luggage carrier on top. We drove from Tampa to Orlando, then a couple days later we drove from Orlando to the Space Coast. The front of our family truckster and luggage rack was trashed...and that darkish wad of crap was a thick buggy carpet on the front of the vehicle.

I figure that's everywhere...certainly common in the midwest when things heat up.
