Painted my lower forks black. Much more stealthy and gained 2 hp.
Put some stickers on them and gain even more
!
Yesterday I changed the engine oil & filter along with the final drive gear oil. Then, in the spirit of fairness I gave "The Flash" another go today only this time more aggressively in the twisties:
1) maybe b/c it was something new I was being too timid. The throttle roll-on from closed is now as it should be. No sudden fuel, no quirkiness. Very smooth. Highly recommend the flash if that Gen2 throttle jerk is bothersome;
2) engine braking is still diminished as I described but after today I think I can relearn to keep it somewhat effective. It's a big change after having something for all these yrs then suddenly losing it.
I think I'll keep the flashed ECU installed for a while and work with it. After today it seems the trade-off may be worth it. Much better throttle control at speed when banging up & down through the gears. It seems that 3rd is the most delayed for rpm drop off. Unfortunately that's my chosen gear for twisty engine braking but I'll figure it out.

I actually rolled out of the garage and started it up. Let it run until the fan cycled and then rode it two laps of my driveway before putting it away. Did the same with the wing. Will be riding the snow blower this morning.

I got my FJR out for the First Ride of 2021 yesterday. Nothing exciting - just a run over to the Iron Pony for a new pair of gloves since my tried-and-true Harley gloves I've had since 2009 magically sprouted a hole in one of the fingers. You can guess which finger.

Changed the engine oil, I used a blend of synthetic, conventional, hybrid mix ratio of the Motul, Amsoil, Rotella blend. This way I figure I can get every single acronym for the oil industry standard. #winningtheoilgame
I don't see any mention of changing the oil filter..... for reference, the FRAM number is PH6607 (short) or PH7317 (long). I know Yamaha recommends changing the filter every other oil change, but best spin on a new one. Hope that helps!!

Filter change is not needed when you us the superior blend/hybrid that I have concocted.
Or maybe I used a Mobil 1 that fits the FJR perfectly.
Today I am going to Shim the windshield just a touch with some nylon washers. I do not want the CBaileys screen getting scratched by a heavy head wind. The shied flexes back just enough to touch the GPS sun shade.

It is amazing you spooned the tire on. Cycle Gear just down the road will mount them from little coin.
There has been a mgmt change at our local cycle gear. I'm taking a break from them for a while. They seem to have forgotten The Golden Rule. No - not that one. The other one:
He who hath the Gold gets to make the Rules.

Caveman Creative engineering/Redneck engineering:
A spare tire rim that no longer has its car. There is a split reinforced hose around the lip of the rim.
Note the wood disk in the lower left of the picture. The rim has the light spot marked by Fred W's right hand.
ionbeam on the right wielding the tire iron, chasing Fred's fingers. By the center rod there is an arrow that shows the direction that the tire should be mounted, the rim goes on accordingly.
Notice that there was a 'leverage flap' left on the rim from the old tire. Fred is leveraging the flap as he pulls off the old tire.
Home grown balancer using low friction bearings. The matched pair of bar stools are a nice touch

Finished the windshield shim. 1/2 inch clearance now in lowest position. I didn’t have any appropriate plastic washers, so what do you do?
You make them out of rubber gasket material. Not sure what it started out in life, but it became a 2mm thick washer with some trimming and shaping.
FJR is off the lift and just waiting for a new rear tire to arrive.

Many years ago I called my local Cycle Gear and arranged to drop off my wheels and have them done while I was having lunch with a friend in the local area so I could pick them up when I was done. They didn't do the tires during lunch and were still sitting by the cash register. I was livid but told them that I'd be driving out of my way to come pick them up at 5:00PM as I needed to be back to work, which they assured me they'd be done. Guess where the wheels were when I walked in at 5PM? If you guessed "Next to the cash register unchanged" you'd be right. They scrambled and got them done while I angrily watched them do it. No discount, nothing, just acted as if it were no big deal. It was that week that I bought my Harbor Freight changer and haven't been back to any dealer for tires since.

My observation is the local Cycle Gear doesn’t keep employees, even managers, very long. That suggests something is wrong. Either does not pay enough to keep the good, or doesn’t hire the good in the first place so they have to replace.

Got a call from the Service Manager at the dealer. The parts for my recall repair are on backorder with no ETA.

I did a double take as well. Think he is referring to using the jumper to activate the ABS when bleeding brakes...

Washed my FJR today then after it dried I applied Turtle Wax 53409 Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating. This is great stuff. It is good on plastics and leaves a nice slick finish.
Cycle Gear in Spokane was real helpful when I purchased a helmet recently. It is sad good customer service is hard to come by in places.

Re-installed my wheels with new RS3s on them. Changed the oil and greased the pivot points.
She's ready to rip. And one week from today, the next adventure begins....
