I’ve got one in my home state now. Haven’t been there yet. Buccee’s is a worthy grail. :)

Probably jinxed the weather. Time will tell.

Finished putting her to bed for the winter;

- Changed oil/filter
- Changed rear end oil
- Flushed brake & clutch fluids
- Cleaned brake pistons & rear slider pins
- Replaced front brake pads
- Removed & lubed swingarm
- Removed & lubed shock linkage
- Replaced air filter
- Lubed throttle cables
- Switched from CT to 190-55-17 bike tire (Back from the Dark side)

Covered her up with the fancy YAMAHA bike cover and sang her lullabies.

Rode it to drop a care package off for a sick friend. About an hour. It was a good ride. Loaded it for a long day tomorrow.

Hooked up the Battery Tender. Someday, need to change the oil and clean off the bugs. From reading this thread, I'm clearly not the most motivated member on maintenance. In fact, I might just start eying sheep like my friend Barry. It's winter time. f@$k it!

Probably really pissed Renee off. Bought a 2014 BMW R1200GS. Haven't picked it up yet. Not sure if there will be a knock down drag out fight when I park it in the same garage. Seriously looking foward to some adventure riding. I am thinking both need to remain in the stable, along with the Road King.?......

Rode it for a little while. It was cold. Thoroughly tested the new Sena 50s. It lasted 9 straight hours of full blast music before I got a battery low prompt. It probably had a good hour of battery left, (might have been more if it hadn’t been cold), but I plugged it up anyway. God it’s good not to have to shut it off to charge it (SRL). Remembered to test radio reception for Hud. I don’t have a lot to compare it to, but I got a metric buttload of stations and they seemed clear to me. My Nolan n-com FM radio reception was useless.

Gracias, amigo for the FM test. Will be converting “metric butt load” to US standard measure this evening, as I write Santa Claus for a Sena 50.

Today, swapping shields. I want to do another SS1K.
This time with the touring screen. Always used the Cee Bailey in the winter. Comparison for science. Replaced a couple of well nuts. The top two were only still well nuts in an academic sense.

Replugged the “beak”. When I plugged it for the season, I didn’t use a big enough piece of foam. Had jets of sub freezing air coming through on both sides Thursday.

Fetched the next set of tires off the porch. Still haven’t received the email confirming my rebate submission.

Well I learned if you leave the key on for a long time it will not start.

Rode some back roads.
Image

Stopped at a beautiful park. Walked around. Took some pictures. Made some phone calls.
Image

While the FJR sat with the key and the GPS was still on.
Image

Well...

Turned over a bit but mostly clicked.

Called AMA. After a long conversation I figured out they were no help. I am not in the middle of nowhere but you can see it from here.

So I look around. Just old fishermen. Here come some Harleys but they are old dudes and limping.

I am a dumbass. I own a jump box. It is on the wife's bike 4 hours away.

Not sure I am up to push starting the bike on my own. Never had to try that.

Sit around thinking.

Up drives a young guy and his girl.

So with my best smile I explain my situation.

First try he is just tentative with pushing the bike. I dump the clutch too hard it stops. This young man is an athlete. He yells WE almost had it.

Next try he digs in and and I do the skateboard peddle. Boom! Sweet sound.

The young man was awesome. He smiled and jumped right in. Would not take any money.

There are good kids out there.

He certainly made my day!

Yesterday, I geared up and took off. In about 10 miles, it was clear and apparent that I wasn't feeling it. My mind is elsewhere. I tried to let it go, but 20 miles later, I realized that this is just not gonna happen and today is not worth crashing.

About face, back to the house, and park it.

There will be other days.....

I swear by my jump pack. Having it decreases my odds of needing it. One lives in my bike. I put one in the wife’s suv after she had a dead battery and I was working in another state and couldn’t help. Pants- after my long day Thursday, I’ve been uncharacteristically okay with staying home this weekend. Usually I’m too restless. But I’ve been quite happy indoors. Friday and yesterday I left the house only for supplies and to go running. I think our bodies are sending us hibernation signals.

Dan, I love your story. Ive had my son push start my bike before, as ive push started other's bikes. Im sure you did this, but 2nd gear is always best if yer push starting.

BkrChuck helped me push start my FJR during the SFO Rally Rally. Some jelly brained idjit left the switch (and headlights) on while we searched for a grave marker.

Unless it’s on a gen 4, in which case it (second gear) will explode.

I was in first, but only cause I didn't know better.

It probably would have fired the first time if I was in second or exploded😀

On those days I do like you and just call it a day.

Or.

Here we have some back roads that go out to the gulf. They just meander through the salt marshes. Sometimes I just take those nice and slow and stop for pictures. No traffic and quiet. Good for when you don't feel like pushing the envelope is a good idea. Sometimes you see new things on a familiar road when going slow.

With the fear of a 6 speed transmission recall my idea of getting a 2019 non-ES model evaporated like Frosty the Snowman on a July day in Death Valley.

What next? Response: Be a former FJR rider.

So I put a deposit on this today a 2019 BMW RT with 4580 miles on the odometer.

Image

The bike is within 1/2 day driving distance and I can get my deposit back if I don't like what I see when I get there. There is a recall on the front brakes and the parts are scheduled to arrive in January. I am in no hurry to pick it up as it is not riding season. I will go test ride it when weather permits.

We will see how this works out.

So what did I do to my FJR today? I made plans for the future.
