Good bike but needs suspension work. Rear is worn out.
8k for a 2013 with 88k miles is ridiculous.

Probably why it's been in the dealership since November.

Over the years I have only seen a few used FJRs at dealerships. They are always priced 3-5k too high.

I installed the LED headlights on my 2013 today. Not that there's any noticeable difference. ImageImage

No it's not out. The lights flash in the phone camera due to the camera frame rate. It was just a timing issue. The Clearwaters work perfectly. Man those LEDs look sharp though Joe. I also installed foam grip covers and the Admore FJR adapter to light the Shad SH50 topcase. Still waiting for those lights though. I also have a Helibar bridge on the way and I have to install my Garmin XT power mount. Then I'm allowed to ride. :D I'm really happy with this bike. I'm probably going to have to sell the 2008 AE. We'll see.

I'm going to install a set of Shinko Raven's on this 2013 also. That'll get me to Tennessee, the South Carolina ride, and SEO. Then I'll mount a set of Dunlop Roadsmart 3's for the California trip. The Shinkos can be saved to finish off on either of the FJRs later.

Never did see what the dealer had my 2016 listed. That was a dealer in NC. Mmmm, curious. They do have a 2014 but says availability pending.

I added the power mount for the Garmin Zumo XT and the power supply for the Gerbings heated jacket liner and gloves. I also installed Admore Lighting running lights, turn signals, and brake lights to the Shad SH50 topcase on the 2013. Lisa showed me how to activate the brake lights. She knew it would take some time for me to figure it out 🙂.

Because my 2008 AE had LED lighting wired through the license plate, I had to put my FJRiders license plate frame on the Tracer.

Now that I have the 2013, the FJRiders license plate frame is where it belongs..... On an FJR!

Now that you've put some miles on the '13, what's your impression so far? Anything you really like? Don't like?

Ok, you asked......

It rides just like my 2008 AE. I'll certainly miss the paddle shifting. That is the bomb!

I love the maintenance feature on the dash. I can track oil changes, front tire wear, and rear tire wear separately by mileage. Cool.

I thought the range feature was good until I learned that when the fuel light flashes, you have a gallon and a half of fuel remaining. The Gen 2's work exactly the same way. At the time of fuel light flashing, the range indicated 38 miles remaining. Wrong. There would be a minimum if 50 miles remaining if not 60.

The Vstream windscreen on my bike is better than stock.

The heat management of the engine seems to be a little better than the Gen 2's

The Russell Day Long seat is tremendous. I used to have to take my feet off of the pegs every now and then to stretch my legs. Not with the Russell. The seat must not restrict blood flow as much.

The fuel map in sport mode is a little spunkier than the Gen 2's. Although the throttle is a little jerky in sport mode. I'll be getting Ivan's CPU flash at some point. That'll clear that up.

I was never a Shad fan until I inherited this SH50 topcase. The ability to open and close it without a key is very convenient. It can also be locked if needed.

The styling of the bike is more attractive than the Gen 2's. The front of the bike is more modern looking.

Removing the bodywork to get full access to the battery, mirror nuts, and the headlight bulbs is a PITA. Trying to get the screws back in can make you pull your hair out.

The digital dash and button driven menu is cool. I wish the dash was a bit brighter. I have the brightness adjusted to the highest setting.

I may add a slipper clutch eventually to lighten the clutch pull a little. I have FZ1 mirrors on the AE and they give incredible visibility to the rear. I will add them eventually.

The 20 liter tankbag that came with the bike is unusable since I moved the bars back with the Helibar. I ordered a smaller 10 liter one. I wouldn't be without Helibar risers. It makes the riding position much more comfortable.

Overall, I like the Gen 3 more. However an FJR is still an FJR no matter what Gen you have. They're all amazing machines.

Ha ha. As you know Mr. Wheaton, the 2013 color is my favorite. I've always wanted one. It only took 10 years to make it happen.

Hold on just a darn minute! There's a dash brightness adjustment?

Yes. Hold menu button in until the main menu pops up. It's also how you get to the heated grips, display, maintenance, etc. settings. You're serious right?

I will let you try the clutch on my 22. While it is an improvement, It's not MT09 light.
You can go through the gears on mine and see if it's a project you want to do.

That is very kind of you sir! Thanks Dan. My Tracer clutch is very light also.

Darn right I'm serious! I'm mostly confused when it comes to the "instrument and control functions" section of the owners manual. Took me nearly 10 minutes to add an hour to the clock after I rode around for a month with the wrong time displayed, dreading the need to do it the whole time. I am NOT a multi-menu display person, I despise that shit.
