I get it - but in my case, over the past 10-15K miles, my FJR has actually started consuming a little oil. Like you, I never (NEVER) checked the oil between changes. Last year, I pull out of the driveway to go to SFO, and 2 miles down the street, the oil light comes on! At that time, it was about 4K since the oil change.
So I started getting OCD about it (admittedly), and 3 pages and 1 year later on this thread, here we are.
It doesn't seem to be burning much, so I'll go back to ride more, stress less I suppose.
Sell it.

Pants, you have not convinced me you really have an oil burning problem of any significance to worry about. Gimme consistent data and we'll talk.

OH SHIT, now you have done it. If I know anything about Pants, he knows data and this will become a personal challenge. He is a man of Science and you sir are going to have data coming out your orifices. LOL
Pants does not plan trips on motorcycles, but I guarantee he knows spreadsheets. Damn, this is gonna be fun to watch. HAHA.
Can all of you tell I am bored at work?? Almost to Wheatie status.

Well, challenge acknowledged but not fully accepted. I'm gonna keep an eye on it. But regardless, I'm not worried about it.
And in the spirit of "ride more, stress less", me thinks I'll thrash the ole girl a bit tomorrow!!

Pants,
Drain and weigh the oil before each ride, replace said oil, and then do the same after each ride. Make sure the bike is at the same temp for each evolution. Report back to Ray after you have at least a dozen data points. That'll show him!

Oh my dear friends, how do I thank thee, let me count the ways. Here's number 1:
In Arkie, for a short time, I got suckered into the worry. Not worry like "oh shit my bike is burning oil". But more like "oh shit, my bike is burning oil and I'm gonna dump it and now I've got to install all of this accessory crap on another FJR and I'd rather be riding THIS FJR."
Then I realized that I AM riding THIS FJR. She's running like a spotted ape and I'm eating up these curves as fast as I can. Nobody's hurt, nobody's got heartburn or butt burn or anything of the sort. One can only truly have fun if one allows himself to do so.
Yeah.... ride more, stress less...
