Many thanks for everyone's kind words about Alan. He fought bravely for 2 years thru 4 different chemo regimens - 2 experimental - but it was an aggressive form of cancer. His only symptom was he was feeling fatigued and short of breath, so went to Urgent Care, where they discovered his hemoglobin was so low they called an ambulance.
I love the pictures - he was always so happy at these group events and on our rides thru New England with fellow NERDS.
I would like to put together an obituary if anyone would like to contribute. We met in 1975 at Bell and Howell. He was a QA inspector and secretly fixed my assembly errors - for which I had to pay him in Black Russians.
I haven't been on the forum much over the past year, just noticed this and it put a knot in my stomach. I thought of Mr. Beam several times this summer wondering how he was doing since I had heard he was sick about a year before. I was luck to have met him & Mrs. Beam at a couple NERDs in Stowe and shake his hand. Just a happy and very nice guy with a wealth of information always willing to share. Like many others, when I posted a techical question he post solid knowledge that I was greatful for. He is missed by many near and far. Thoughts and prayers to Helen and family!!

From the other forum from username FJReady who I think is Alan’s brother?
Happy to report here that Alan and Helen's 2015 FJR got a new home yesterday. It was a little sad extracting this beautiful, well cared for ES from the garage at their home, but equally joyous knowing the bike would be ridden again after two plus years of sitting.
The mice were evicted from the air cleaner and under the seat and there is some wiring needing repair due to their presence, but all in all the bike is in great shape. No surprise to those who know Alan. The familiar license plate shown below now hangs on the wall above Alan's workbench where, no doubt, many FJR related problems and solutions were discussed and resolved.

What I took from my quick reading over there, is that Alan's bike is going to FJReady's younger brother. But I may have that wrong. In any event, its going to breathe and live again. We need more living.

The bike indeed is going to my brother. I'm Snowflake here, FJReady over there. As I posted there, it was a little sad rolling Alan's bike out of its cozy garage/shop space, but Helen is very happy its going to a new owner who will love it like he did and ride it like its supposed to be ridden.
Anyone interested in a 2005 FJR with 140,000 happy miles on its odometer?
It's stuff like this that makes this group of humans special. I'm sure Alan is smiling about this, and it's therapeutic for Helen as well.

I never met ionbeam but we messaged enough where he sent me 10,000 seeds from his hummingbird vine three years ago. I was looking for something (invasive) that would quickly root in an steep area to prevent erosion. His cover letter, just like his posts, was clearly written with just the right touch of humor. I am saddened to see he's died.
May light perpetual shine upon him.
