Meat Eaters?

The poor things are probably just cold and need to cuddle up for warmth.

Thanks for the update and glad your weather cleared up a bit BigJohn! Hoping TOW opens up for y'all...Panman and I had a sunny ride over TOW in 2019. Also got drowned a couple times too...but that's another story!

It’s all fun and games until a bug uses the crack of your ass as a race track. PM for pictures.

Wednesday - A nice day here in Dawson City

Image

And it looks pretty good for the next few days.

Image

Tuesday - we left Carmacks in the rain after fueling.Image

Image

We followed the Yukon River for several hundred miles.

Image

Eventually the rain stopped but then we hit two long construction sections, about 20k in each one with pilot cars.

Image

Image

Image

Image

The local guy in the Nissan Murano was a great rabbit. The 90km speed limit is absurd, he ran 75-80 mph and showed us where to slow for frost heaves and pavement deterioration.

We got to Dawson City and it was sunny! Our abode for the next four nights.
Image

Skooter and I went for a walk

Image

We've been seeing Steve and his Honda 500 all along the way. He is from North Carolina and this is his first bike, first long trip.

The local Catholic Priest shanghaid us into a tour of his museum. A nice man, from Malta, he is a long way from home.

Image

The Territorial Flower of the Yukon must be the dandelion, Tyler, this is for you!

Image

Almost every bear we have seen along the road has been eating dandelions.

We slept in this morning then pulled out all of our wet/damp camping gear and dried it in the sun.

After repacking we took a ride up to the Midnight Dome which overlooks Dawson City and the confluence of the Klondike and Yukon rivers.

Image

Image

Image

Tomorrow we will likely ride out on the Top of the World Highway for fifty miles or so before returning to Dawson City and the D2D Event setup. Friday is a poker run which is not FJR suitable, the evening is comprised of a dinner, Biker Games and a midnight photo followed by the "marking of the bikes" - the placing of the stickers noting attendance.

Saturday we will Be up early and headed to Haines Junction, YT where we have a reservation. Sunday an early ride to Haines AK and the ferry to Skagway AK before a ride to Nugget City for the evening.

We may well rendezvous with Pterodactyl and Spousal Unit at Nugget City before heading South down the Cassiar Highway.

Wednesday and Thursday we rested. Today we took a 100 mile jaunt out the Top-of-the-world Highway on a beautiful Yukon morning. Now back in Dawson City all fueled and ready for our run to Haines Junction tomorrow morning.

A few pictures from last night and today:
A few bikes have arrived, I counted 50 at the Triple J

That FJR, now THAT is a proper riding machine!

And THAT'S why Skooter is the smartest rider in this thread, JSNS!!

Saturday - Dawson City to Chicken AK, 140 miles of gravel. Avg speed 60mph Skooter found his confidence, the FJR did good, dark side gets max attention from the ADV crowd. Chicken to Beaver Creek, back into Canada. Beaver Creek to Destruction Bay for coffee and a warm up. Destruction Bay to Haines Junction and a "thin towel motel". The motel was cheap and clean, but on the lower spectrum of comfort and the hot water ran out on Skooter this morning.

Sunday - Haines Junction, YT to Haines AK. 140 miles of unbelievable vistas, spoiled by a stubborn maritime layer and cool to cold temps. A good breakfast in Haines

Haines AK to Skagway AK, Alaskan Ferry - last on and last off, took forever to load and unload a group of RVs and 5th wheel trailers. The past times I've ridden this ferry MC were first on/first off! Added an hour to thectrip.

Skagway to Carcross, Carcross to Teslin - the Yukon Motel. Teslin is flooded, the Teslin River/Teslin Make is really full and they are doing industrial strength sand bagging to try and keep the water away. One of the folks told me they are looking at another meter of Water rise! All from melting snow, they had lots, and recent rain on already saturated soils.

I'll ad the pictures tomorrow from Fort Nelson. We have decided to do more weather avoidance endure to Nakusp. The Cassiar Highway looks rainy and wet, the ALCAN looks sunny and dry. We are heading down the ALCAN in the morning, after all, "you really haven't ridden a road until you've ridden it both ways" - Brian Maddy!

The non-nautical contingent rode the Cassiar Hwy yesterday and spent the night in Dease Lake.

Spousal Unit led the way….

Destruction Bay to Haines Junction and a "thin towel motel". The Stardust motel was cheap and clean, but on the lower spectrum of comfort and the hot water ran out on Skooter. Good dinner at the 1080 Pub.

Pictures from above sections went AWOL?

Haines AK to Skagway AK, Via the Alaska ferry
Image
We took the ferry from Haines to Skagway an "hour" stretched into almost three by the loading procedures. It used to be MC first on first off, not this time, last on and last off. It took forever to load and unload a group of RVs and 5th wheel trailers. The past times I've ridden this ferry MC were first on/first off! Added an hour to the trip.

Skagway to Teslin -
Image
Lake Tagish miles long between Fraser and Tagish. We need to figure out how to pipe this water South to Arizona!

Image
Near Carcross on the way from Skagway to Teslin

We headed down the ALCAN at 0730 this morning.

Teslin is flooded, the Teslin River/Teslin Make is really full and they are doing industrial strength sand bagging to try and keep the water away. One of the folks told me they are looking at another meter of Water rise! All from melting snow, they had lots, and recent rain on already saturated soils.

Image
Serious Sand bagging at the Yukon Motel - Teslin

Image
Teslin River Bridge - water just a few feet under the support members and expected to rise another meter!

Image
Signpost Forest - Watson Lake

ImageIt is construction season and we were held up three different times for up to 30 minutes waiting for the pilot car.

Image
Skooter caught these two, the only Brown Bears we have seen on the trip, eating dandelions.

Image
Just a little shower or two today.

2.399 is actually reasonable. I'm kind of shocked. We are currently paying 2.26 in igloomikfuktuk.

Just a point of reference.

Like gas was 31c/gallon in 1973...no affect...just a reference.

Yeah, it's becoming apparent to me that an FJR is a proper adventure bike, if you have the RIGHT kind of tires...like fjrob had a few years ago.

If there's not a photo for that 2013 suitable for the 2023 calendar, then y'all are going to have to go back and take some more photos.

That view, that bike? That should be 100% chance of great photos!
