I just picked up a shoei neotech and love it so far. It fits my head shape very well, nice and quiet for a modular. Glasses work very well with it but I do have to take them off when removing or putting the helmet on. The cheek pads are a little tight on me so I ordered some smaller ones on Amazon that should be here tomorrow.

Someone at work told me something to the effect of:
"If you think your head is only worth $100, buy a $100 helmet."

Then he said I could probably get away with a Bilt helmet from Cycle Gear...used Bilt helmet.

Not sure if I call him a friend anymore.

Haha...People that say that are stupid. The difference between $100 and $800 helmets are weight, comfort, noise, materials, name recognition, and how much the company thinks they can get someone to pay before they'll balk. Not even in that order, because a few places have done comparisons on exactly that, and it's not always the more expensive helmets that win. When it comes to safety, they're all very close, and again, not always the most expensive are the best.

I buy what's comfortable and in my price-range. I'm not buying a $600 or $800 helmet. That's ludicrous money for what they are. Honestly, $250-$300 helmets seem to be a very good place to look. AND, then I find one on sale. f@$k it, I'm frugal about certain things.

Yup, a DOT standard, is met by a $100 helmet as well as a $1000 dollar helmet. Go nuts if you can swing it.

I got one of those, too; matte black like the Sons of Anarchy. If it gets much hotter around here, that beanie might get some road time.

Not really. That helmet's getting zero more miles on it.

I swear by Nolan modulars. Any helmet is going to be louder than is good for your ears at ramming speed. Plugs are a must. But cheap helmets tend to be loud. For example- the bell revolver looks good and looks good on paper. But it was designed by gypsies. Every vent rattles around loose in the shell. It’s like riding in a truckload of legos. Higher end helmets tend to have a little better fit and finish. I would enjoy a shoei neotec just just as much as my Nolan’s, but I like Nolan’s integrated comm system.

I wore my Shoei Multitech to death and will be going with a Neotech next season.

I have a Shoei shaped head, and prefer modulars, but have a 3/4 for when it gets too stinking hot in the summer

I ordered an N104 absolute to replace the last one . Should be here tomorrow. I ride year round. I need good airflow in the summer, and to be able to close it off when it's cold. IF you can find what works for you- a high end helmet that fits feels almost like not wearing a helmet at all. I've gone from 4am to 4pm without taking mine off. Just that comfortable.

Say, when is the 'best jacket' thread coming?

A perfect helmet would require a perfect head to put into it. Since mine is (and all of yours as well) imperfect, it is best to get the one that fits your misshapen noggin, and your financial sensibilities, best.

I, for one, will never knock another rider for either senselessly paying too much, nor frugally too little, for a helmet.
I will, however, readily give you full ration of shit for not wearing one at all. There is no excuse for that.

My head is only worth about a third of the heads around here. I got one of the last of the Scorpion EXO 920 in 3XL. Best helmet so far for me.
