Re: A Break from the Usual Break
Last riding day. Friday
A little warmer for the leftover bacon was needed. You know, for cooking only. Of course all that wood had to be used to heat up a half dozen or so pieces. I really enjoy my tea in the AM.

We got geared up and set off on a few familiar roads as the campground is on the east side of the huge chunk of NF. We ride a ways and find a creek to eat an early lunch.

We parked just off the road but honestly could have laid the bikes over in the road. Absolutely no one would come by out here.

This little road behind my 450 went along the creek and I ride up a couple hundred yards to find some of those gigantic murky potentially bottomless puddles. I 180 ed it and came back.

As Pants said there are almost no people about here.

Evidence in that no one has come by to remove this tree. I could understand if this was at the crack of dawn and the tree fell in the middle of the last nights wind storm.

But as I just checked, I took this pic at 12:31 pm. And no one has been there yet. If something happened to you on this route, you better be self reliant for at least a good while.

Pants just dragged it out of the way and we ride through. I think he secretly hopes he could hook up the Bush Pig and tractor that log out of the way!!

Sometimes you aren’t gonna just pull/push debris out of the way. We came upon this little mess at 12:39pm.

I keep a folding Silky saw for this exact purpose. We sawed through a few limbs to create a spot to go through.

Easy peasy with three people.

We popped out of the forest near that country store in Rover again and I saw OFaces favorite BBQ sauce.

On the track we found a bridge with a little problem.

I honestly would have rode through it but no amount of coaxing would’ve successfully coaxed Pants. He was not gonna get dunked again. Had it been warmer, maybe!

This crossing was more our speed.

The top of Mt Magazine was nice. The road up there is a sweet piece of pavement. I was having trouble keeping up with Pants. Part of it was because #1 he is a fast pavement rider. Don’t get it twisted, he is super cautious on the dirt, but will ride the wheels off that DR on asphalt. The second reason is because on any straight away he turns into a Kentucky derby jockey. He is flagrantly putting the whip to the bush pig with his left hand. It’s funny shit.

The view is good and we shared some of the cookies from the store up here. There was one family there and then they bolted after the bunch of dirty bikers showed up. lol.

I think our camp is out there somewhere all the way to the left.

Blue Mountain lake behind us to the west.

Only way back is to cross this bridge unless we wanted to ride pavement or go way out of the way.

Tonight is my turn to cook and we picked up some ribeyes from Harps the night before. Coals were made and steaks were seasoned properly.

Mike brought his Coleman camp stove and it was just as valuable tonight as it was all week. Baby portabella mushrooms on the right and squash on the left. Both get a little olive oil and spiced up.

A little flip after grill marks and crust is established. We each had a ribeye and one was left over for the morning.

Salad on the side with a root beer for balance. Mike had some pepper jelly that we were putting on the crackers. It was by far the best surprise of the trip.
Come with us camping and you can get some.

We retired for the night after a few hours hanging by the campfire/grill. I bet we heated up some more cookies but I don’t recall. The next morning we packed up and headed home. I had 560 miles and a bunch of gear to wash/organize.
I stopped by Sam’s club in Carbondale Illinois for 2 things. Sam’s is exceptionally good for both is these things.

Flowers for the wife, sometimes I think I could motocamp indefinitely but I do miss her always when I am away.
And you know I snagged us something to eat/grill.

If I bring her those two things, she is probably gonna keep letting me go play with the boys. I think it helped that she and Mackenzie had wedding errands to plan/figure out.
I appreciate the retired guys working their schedules around the working stiff. The hard part is that I still have 7 or so years left of having to use Spring Break time for adventures. If they are as good as this one, I think I can survive until it’s the Usual Break. Until the next one; go find your adventure!

Re: A Break from the Usual Break
Wonderful addition to the ride report!!
Until I bought the Bush Pig, I didn't pay my heed to the creed "it's fun to ride a slow bike fast". Now I get it. But when you "railing it" on a 8% grade with a 450RL in tow, you better give 'er a little whip on the hind quarter!
Stay thirsty, my friends.....

"Railing it" and "Bush Pig" are not generally used in the same sentence. Was Bustanut Joker in the area?Hppants wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 9:20 am Wonderful addition to the ride report!!

LOL Trust me, he was giving it the beans. One one particular left hander, Pants was almost to the white line to set up the next corner. M.Marquez would have been proud.fontanaman wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 10:14 am"Railing it" and "Bush Pig" are not generally used in the same sentence.
