Very Interested. I've been wanting to get out west. Maybe bring the KLR and FJR. Choices are like options. lol.

I would imagine the weather up there during that time would still be conducive to camping?
I have camped there at least 4 times in different years. Once in June, twice in July, and once in August. All 4 times it was pleasant in the evening, but in August it was hot during the day. But unlike the south and central US, the humidity is marginal at best. Early June, it likely won’t be hot. Warm, but the nights cool off quick and that campground has expansive tree cover. I also know from personal experiences, the creek flowing through there is cold enough to chill a beverage or drop your body temp if you stand in it. I will post pictures in a second.

July 14 with my buddy Nick who ride his 600 shadow all the way out there from Illinois.
Same campsite
Same bridge in 2018 at the Blackhills Rally.
July 1st
Bridge is holding up well.
After Red Lodge with Spawn
Family trip out there late June in 21
The on site fish exhibit is amazing.
The campground is perfect for camping and it’s a 300 foot walk to the pavilion where John has had the past dinners.
I am jacked for this event already.

subcribed and interested.
That said - every weekend in June is typically occupied by 4H horse shows. If this falls on an open weekend, I'm in!

I posted the link up on Thursday on bigjohnsd's post about a proposed 2024 FJR/dual sport/ADV get together next June. Unfortunately I forgot to watch it earlier tonight.

Black Hills BDR-X loop will be newly released this Saturday. It is bound to make for great ride for those that want to ride a mixture of gravel, world class stretches of pavement, challenging two track and some dirt roads. Last time John had a FJR / Dual sport rally, we had a small group of myself Bill, and CJ that rode most of the 900+ mile DAKAL (Dakota Adventure Loop) and it was a great time but was a lot of pavement and gravel trying to link up trails and touch Nebraska, Wyoming and North Dakota.

I had sort of forgotten that this was in the works. I might have to find a few August days to get out there and ride the 355 mile Black Hills BDR_X loop.
Great news the BDR-X route will run through Spearfish running down Spearfish Canyon road. The BDR-X has three sections starting out with Section 1 starting out in Keystone to Spearfish, Section 2 starts out in Spearfish running to Hill City, and section 3 starts out in Hill City returning to Keystone.
This Black Hills BDR-X looks like something my Super Tenere and I will have to be riding in the next 6 or 7 weeks. I am pumped about this new South Dakota BDR route!
A 355 mile brand new BDR-X route that can be started and ended in Spearfish sounds like great timing for John's proposed "Non Rally" next June.

I'm liking the X idea. Makes it easier for guys on little bikes to do, staging your truck somewhere and just ride from there ending up back at your truck. I know of some folks planning an NMBDR on small bikes starting and ending in like San Antonio TX all on the bikes. Across Texas twice and once across the boring bits of NM on a DRZ? No thanks. Waste of time.

Camping should be at Spearfish City Campground. It has great accomodations. It is clean, priced decent, sites are good size. I have been there plenty and often have no one next to us. Definitely not on top of you. Shower houses are well thought out and smartly located. The local PD makes a habit of being noticed.

It looks like $25/day for primitive spots to tent camp. If you are keen eyed, you can find some of the light poles that have a power plug attached to charge a device or two like I have done each time there. There is water very close by in many spots as well.

Absolutely interested. I would trailer out Big Blue (WR450F) and I might have either a T700 or a Triumph by the time this rolls around.
