The initial recall flash limited it to about 3500 rpm, the new reflash will raise that to 6000, so not likely to happen.

I had my second gear recall done at a big reputable service/dealer in the Asheville, NC area on my 2016A. When I picked the bike up I noticed that there was no ECU flash done and asked them about it. They said my bike did not need it. Ok, never thought much about it until the second flash recall came out. I called them and asked again about this new recall and my bike and again they said nope no worries as it was not done the first time. Ok great then I went to my local dealer for tires recently and they informed me I need the flash update. I explained what was told to me and they seemed to think that somethings not right. Any thoughts?? Thanks.

My dealer put the vin# in some type of Yamaha database. Told them what recalls were on the bike and if they had been done.

Thanks for that Dan! It took some doing but I finally got a hold of a Yamaha Powersports customer service person. She was as nice as a Repo Man. Man she was cold. She verified that the dealer who did the second gear recall did not do the ECU flash, However said my bike needed the re-flash. I kindly asked her why if the first one was not done, then there should be no reason to fix it?? If it ain't broke don't fix it?? She said, Your bike needs the re-flash, Have a nice day:) I guess there are 2 ways to look at it, first of all I can choose not to do anything as they never altered it to begin with. Or secondly I can for paperwork purposes if I ever sold the bike (that's a negative) get it done so they quit hounding me every time I go there. I think the path of least resistance is choice number 1.

She was an asshole...and didn't know what she was talking about so she decided to shut you down. Dealer idjits. Hate those condescending jackoffs.

Blueridgerider,

For any and all FJR recalls, you can contact the Yamaha mothership directly, with you VIN in hand. Either phone or 'Net:

https://www.yamaha-dealers.com/public/w ... tions.html
Yamaha customer service 1-800-962-7926

They may have a suggestion on the shop to do the work, also.

It was the first reflash you didn't want, so you're good. The second reflash fixed the first one, so again you're good. Your choice.
The mothership will just look it up and if they see it not done, of course they're gonna say it needs it.

Just checked my mail box.

Confirmed, no recall notice for me.

That I know of there have been at least 3 FLASH updates of the 2016.

The first corrects a CEL condition if the ignition key is not solidly in the center "run" position but dash illuminates, the starter button does not start and a CEL is logged, which requires a scan tool to clear. The update eliminates the CEL.

Then another with the transmission recall which limited 1st and 2nd HP/RPM to protect the new transmission.

After much complaint, the third at least partially raised the limits on 1st and 2nd, possibly not restoring to the original parameters.

Dealer called, letting me know my reflash needs to be scheduled. Curious if they really know why my bike needs to have this done.
