If it were me... the Power Commander couldn't fix the snatchy throttle completely on '06-'07, but it could make it better. IF it were me, I'd trade that PC fo the Ivan flash in a heartbeat on those bikes.
Altitude sickness is really moot at this point..... the fix is no longer available from Yamaha.
CCT if it's the original, I'd be changing it like yesterday.
ABS cycling, on that generation, required..... either short the two wires at the connector or get one of them special harnesses from the FJRiders storefront.

I smell a tech day list of jobs coming soon.
I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!

There are 8 spider ground connectors, not 6.

I'd investigate a Stiffy Kit, too.

I'd only get a stiffener kit if you don't have the GIVI subframe (I didn't look back to see if you have a givi top case). Givi subframe strong like bull.

The exhaust on the bike is a full Holeshot system with header and those items were done by the very first owner if I'm not mistaken.

My coworker and very good friend Bill owned the bike for the past 6 years roughly. Bill had been riding a BMW K1200LT that was a near constant drain on his wallet and the last straw was the clutch failure. When his wife heard what it was about to cost to fix she asked what bike I was riding at the time as Bill never mentioned my bike being in the shop so Anita told Bill to just go buy one of those then since the BMW kept costing them money. Bill showed up at work Monday and told me I needed to help find him a FJR. I started looking on the for sale section of the other sandbox and found this 2006 for sale in Westerville, OH and contacted the seller for Bill then put the two guys in touch with one another. A deal was made and Bill and I drove out to Pittsburgh and the seller rode in to meet us. Bill has unfortunately had some health issues related to his years of military service that have been causing increasing problems for him and he began talking about selling it last year. He hated seeing the bike just sitting and so last year I took possession of it for almost 6 months and rode it for work and did some of the maintenance while I had it. He got the bike back in early October and was able to ride it about 4 times before parking it again. Recent news caused him to begin talking about selling again and the likelihood that his riding days might be over permanently. I know Jim through ADVRider forum and we'd ridden the Void Rally together and knew he would be a perfect next caretaker for the bike and so began taking steps to make it happen.

I'm glad I was able to help set up this deal and the bike is definitely going to be well cared for in it's new home.

If it were me I'd keep the PC on there, use the wally useless pickles smoothness map, put a G2 throttle tamer on and call it a day, then ride happy for many miles ahead. Which is exactly what I've done and have been very happy with it and never had to give a penny to that crooked jerk.

Of course you are correct about the Meter Assembly fault being the instantaneous MPG readout stuck at 17.0 mpg. Fixed my post.

Yes, some '06 were affected poor engine performance with change in altitude which required an ECU replacement to fix the problem. The problem only showed up if the rider used small throttle adjustments which caused the ECU to not update engine parameters.

Since I'm here, I'll ask if the OP got the body colored caps (very expensive caps) that go over the saddle bag holes when the bags are removed and did you get the third lock that fits a Yamaha trunk if you buy one.
I am not sure about the third lock, but the guy I bought it from mentioned the body colored caps and is going to mail them to me. He was only selling because he found out he couldn't ride anymore. As soon as he found out and decided to sell, I was notified and the sale happened that week, so he didn't have a lot of time to look for everything. He's a great stand-up guy and I have no doubts that he will send them to me.

He even let me use his plate and ez pass for the ride home. He's THAT kinda of nice guy.

Hahaha... Bill gave me BOXES of oem parts, maint supplies, and extras! I haven't even had a chance to unpack everything he sent, so they probably ARE in there! Thanks Chuck!

Jim, I THOUGHT Bill said they were packed. If they're not he'll be sure to send them once he finds them. If I'd known those brand new brake pads were in that box they might have fallen out when we left my house! I told you one oil filter failed to make the trip.

I had really hoped Bill would be able to get back on the bike and ride again and Jim can attest now to what kind of person my friend Bill is. There will be some surgery coming up soon and a fairly long recovery period but there is a chance he might ride again. I'm sure hoping so and when that time comes I look forward to helping him find whatever bike comes next.

Nope, not me. Sell the PC to offset the new just released Ivan flash for Gen2. The Wally map was a gas pig, all tuned for performance, didn't fix throttle snatch. The Ivan flash is far superior in this case. I had a PCV on my '07 and could never get it right. As for later Gen2's, I've ridden '10's, '11's, '12's and didn't think they needed a PC at all... '08 was better, '09 got another tweak... maybe OK as well.
The guy who lent his bike to Ivan to develop it is on another sandbox....... it all happened maybe a coupla weeks ago.

Welcome. Great looking bike. Those extra lights look awesome.

Enjoy the ride and get used to it and THEN decide if it needs any changes for YOU. But do check the CCT. It's probably been updated if the guy was on the other forum and already did so many upgrades. That probably didn't slip past him.

Safe Riding!!!

Look around the faring at the CCT, if it has been replaced it will have a blue or green dot on it. The the dot will be approximately the diameter of a #2 yellow pencil eraser or maybe a bit smaller. If the cam chain isn't making noise there is no great emergency to check this.

Does the ambient temperature instantaneous MPG readout work? The '06 had a defective readout that required the entire Meter Assembly (dash unit) to be replaced.

Some FJRs in the early Gen II production have started to have rear wheel ABS failures. A spool valve in the metering block for the rear wheel would freeze and that's it, dun fer, can't be fixed. In almost all cases the first time you know something is wrong is when the rear wheel locks up. It isn't a common failure but it happens. Front wheel ABS failure is almost unheard of. You can and probably should check the rear wheel ABS so there are no surprises down the road. You can go old school and slam the pedal on a loose surface so you can control the consequences. You can also follow the FSM procedure which will activate the ABS system. The FSM procedure is a good idea because it moves fluid through the metering block and prevents ABS failure in the long run by cycling fresh brake fluid through the system.
Trying to work through this like a to-do list as time allows.

Ambient temp and instant mpg work great!

Ordered test plus/switch to check ABS.

Can you give me more of a hint as to where the dot for the CCT would be? I can't seem to find ANY dot.

Will check the spider ground and look for yellow band soon.

Jim some specific things you should do to install that CCT... maybe read up.... zip tie cam chain at lower crank sprocket to prevent chain from falling down and skipping a tooth.... this can be a tech day thing if you want. Don't normally need it, but have spare right side timing cover gasket if we do.

Thanks Ray! I thought it was something that I could see externally. DOH. My lack of experience is showing!!

So I guess my best bet is order the part and when we pull the cover, return the part if we don't need it?

If I understand you correctly, the CCT is external to the engine and with a little work and perhaps an inspection mirror you can see it on the right side/top of the engine just behind the frame. Item 1 is the CCT.

Image

When you look at the frame you will see an oval plug, this plug is removed to access the bolt in the outside end of the CCT that covers the CCT adjuster hole. Item 1 below is the oval plug in the frame. The frame is hollow and has a cutout on the inside so it is open. The hole is there in the frame to swallow the bolt you have to remove to access the adjuster. Word is that you can use a magnet fish to extract the bolt which will fall into the frame almost every time.

Jim, you should be able to see the paint dot if it's there without tearing anything apart. It's on the outside of the cam chain tensioner. Not sure if you need to pull the fuel tank or not. Will try to sneak out and see if I can see it on my bike without doing or removing anything. If you're going to change it do it when you're doing a valve check. Tech day would be the ideal opportunity.

Ray is a great guy to have help on that job. That Wheatie character..... well that's a whole other story.
