For a short period of time my ABS would blink for no apparent reason. I could hit the brakes a couple of times and it would quit. I was getting ready to take it to a dealer and it quit. It has never done it again and that was more than a year ago.

I’m going to replace the battery. I’ll bet a dollar that clears it. It never happens in the morning. Only in the 90+ degree afternoons.

Bill, you have Y.E.S., yes? Well, maybe non-trip to the dealer is worth the cost of a new battery... what is at rest voltage, charging voltage.... load test perhaps?

I have the same issue that both of you are describing. Flashing of the ABS light that is able to be cleared by quickly activating the brake pedal. I can also clear it by using the front brake. Usually I do this simultaneously. It is a very light activation. It’s not like I am locking them up.

I know my issue is related to my AUX lights. Not the small fork mounted one, but rather the bigger ones. I have them on a variable speed controller that works like a dimmer. The are ran the exact same way as the low montes ones that I ran for a year and no issue. They both are connected to a fuse block. On separate circuits.

I am surmising it has something to do with the draw or something else. I had my wheel apart multiple times and cleaned it meticulously, that ain’t it.

If I don’t use my big AUX lights, the light does not come on.

Not sure if this helps, but maybe provides a needed clue to figure out your issue and maybe mine later.

I don’t have any aux lights on my bike. It takes a hard pedal press to clear mine. Like, all the way. I ordered a battery. I’m trying everything I can before subjecting it to what will likely be weeks of downtime while Yamaha/Y.E.S. diagnoses and fixes. Truthfully, if everything continues to function normally except for the flashing, it probably won’t go to the dealer. Not for a while.

I don't have aux lights either. The only thing added to the bike was a GPS. The flashing showed up months after the GPS was installed.
Luckily it quit.

I have a gravel driveway at the cabin. So I know the rear ABS works. Haven't tested the front in awhile.

It does smell of a connection or communication issue from sensors or resistances in circuits..... as long as voltage is more than 12.8, all "should" function just fine... we've covered all the obvious items that would cause issues.... I'm kinda wondering if activating the ABS via the jumper harness would "reset" the system. Wouldn't hurt to see if there are any related codes stored.
The dealer IMHO is not likely to find much beyond looking at codes and replacing the brake/clutch switches and relays (you could help point them in that direction)... they won't/can't really test a relay, so would opt to replace... I'd take it in when opportune and get me some new parts.

FWIW, I have the same issue with the 2017. Seems about every 6 months. I've found taking apart the rear brake pedal, thoroughly cleaning and re-lubing fixes the problem.

Definitely not a pedal issue in my case. Too early to proclaim victory- but it stopped two days ago. Two variables changed. The temp dropped, and i washed the bike and blasted the sensor rings with a hose for a bit. Don’t know which may have caused the remission, and it’s too early to say whether the problem will return.

My flashing comes and goes. Firm braking with the front lever usually makes it go away.

Five riding days and no flashy.

And just because I posted that, it recurred today. It’s temp related. Cooler weather and morning rides never ever saw flashing. Today I got caught waiting for a wreck to get cleared. Bingo. Flashy. I’ll pull any codes with #jwillys help. But I don’t think it’s anything that will affect riding. Next snowstorm I’ll have the dealer check it under warranty.

If the black electrical tape I’ve covered the light with stops working, I will check with you regarding your schedule. Thanks! Good to have a plan B.

Bill, have you attempted cleaning of the clutch and brake lever switches, i.e., spray contact cleaner to ensure the plungers are free, etc.... this intermittency does not sound like relays, more like switches.....
