All I can tell y'all is the current '14 and up VStrom handguards and mounting kit bolts right on with very minor mods. If you want pics, lemme know.
Just my $.02

If you have pics, I’d sure appreciate it. It’s starting to get warm enough to work in the garage
Here you go Bob. If you would like some close ups of the mounting points, I can take some more.

It’s the mounting posts that are of particular interest..I have a 2009 Vstrom in the garage that I have studied...the pivot point for the lever has the handguard posts as the handguard mounting points.. I wonder if the Suzuki hardware can simply be transplanted onto the Yamaha (?)

You'll get new hardware included with the handguard kit. Use that. I'll need some sun to get better pics Bob. Unfortunately that's in short supply in the PNW right now.

Edit - I'll try for more pics tomorrow after work. Hoping they'll come out.

Bob,
For me, the Suzuki pivot bolts were not a good fit, so rather than modify anything on my handlebars, I got the Yamaha pivot bolt heads drilled and tapped to accept a small machine screw, for each handguard. I have a machinist friend who likes the "neat fixes" that I give him to make, now and then. Left to myself, I would have done the epoxy-a-nut stunt, as I described earlier. There is not much stress on the front of the handguards, in driving.

Were the Suzuki pivot bolts too big, or too small?

This is what I was talking about.. caliper mounts, levers, pivot bolts.. whatever you call them. They are usable, but they are to small. Thus, why I was asking about DesertValley as they sell a kit that is perfect.
Also, EscapeArtists bike says a 2015, with the VStrom guards, but their is no Helibar kit on it. Their is NO WAY that you'll be able to turn the bars more than 25% without hitting the boobs on the inner fairing.

I had the V strom hand guards on my last bike with the mounting kit that had the Male female adapter for the lever pivot mount and they worked well, however I found these and they are excellent

When installing the 'Strom hand guards, turn the handlebars full lock and make sure that they don't touch the tank. If you use a tank bag, make sure they clear the bag. On my '04 with risers I had no problem with the 'Strom guards and Garauld's airfoils, but on my '15 without risers the left side airfoil wanted to touch the tank. FWIW.

FYI, IIRC, there are two versions of the V-Strom guards for the pre-12 V-Stroms..... 650 vs. 1000, hydraulic clutch on the 1000. One has the right hardware, but it's been a while since I did that..... if the '14 version fits better, G will know.

The ones I bought from Amazon say they are the 650 version. They fit perfectly. I couldn't stand any slop in my "caliper".

Seriously Bungie? Don't know where you're getting your information, but my '15 goes lock to lock without anything touching anything. And FWIW if you paid closer attention, there's a first gen Heli clamp installed on the bike.
Lighten up and get your facts straight dude. You're starting to sound like FredW.

Sorry, from the pics, their doesn't appear to be an bar relo on it. ... and thats the reason it doesn't hit. Just trying to help out some others if they think it's direct bolt-on to a Gen 3. As for the lighten up comment.. don't be so offended by some ASCII text on forum, and then dragging a 3rd party into your reply. Get out and ride your bike

Sorry about the picture size below. The 2004 - 2012 SUZUKI V-STROM 1000 DL hand guard below is the type I have on my '15, this is the old design. Even without bar risers these guards do not touch my tank. With the Garauld air foils they will touch the tank. The guards can be attached so they fit and look fine yet are assembled wrong and it will make them lower than they should be. (DAHIK from my '04.) Perhaps the shape/fit of the new guard is different.

Thanks...I rode to the Suzuki dealer yesterday and got a quote on all the bits to put the Vstrom guards on the FJR..Next week it should be warm enough to play in the garage and try-fit a guard..

I have that old design on my 15A no risers. The throttle side attached without issues using the Suzuki bolt/pin with good height and orientation. The clutch side however, the guard itself is larger. It required me to drill a new hole into the handguard to mount and pull the guard higher so it won't hit my front dash at full lock. It also required trimming a bit of the guard to allow the clutch lever to pivot freely without binding up near the pivot point. Both sides required enlarging the piece that gets inserted to the bar ends.
I can take pictures if you like.
This is what I ordered...

Different top inner mounting system on the Tenere. Both sides use a bracket to attach to the mirror mount(s). The LH side might be made to work, RH side would require a small custom bracket. As simple as the new VStrom guards are to mount, I'd stick with them.

I checked for slop in the attachment of mine. there is slop on the right side, however I have to intentionally move it to notice it. It stays in place under normal operation. It is only because of this thread that I checked. I have the helibar riser on. My bars hit my Givi tank bag well before they could hit the windshield.
As for the slop in my "caliper", the AR in me now may look into crafting bushing.
