As I look through the pictures of the FJRs, can't help but miss my 09AE which I sold last year to make room for a 17 SuperTenere ES. Same stable, different horses. The Feej is a great bike and when I bought the bike the Forums have been very helpful and informative. Great group of people.
(Thanks for pointing me back to FJRiders, Uncle Hud! )

Oh I can’t wait to get the details on those tech days...
Jes sayin', if you drop a wrench on Bob's garage floor, careful when you bend over to pick it up! DAMHIK.

Ha! You guys are cracking me up and scaring me a little. If there's one thing I've found in this FJR community, it's a great sense of humor among some "distinguished" riders. Not too many young punks buying an FJR, they tend to gravitate toward the 600cc superbikes. Like I did. Oh crap, now I really feel old.

Welcome board!
Always lusted after a Viper myself. One of my neighbors had one for a short while. He loved it until things started to break then he quickly hated it because of the costs involved.

Long story, at work (Chrysler) one day, plant manager throws a set of keys on the table... make sure it's got gas in it by 5pm. Ridiculous horsepower and no weight on the ass end. Security chief and I go, he says you drive I've driven one before. In second, taking it easy, I put 'er sideways. One thing you can't do in a Viper is put your foot to the mat in any gear and count to five. You'll hit something. So couple of weeks later my security buddy motions me over to his office, shows me a black thing with some fibreglass on it. I knew it was a door beam, but from what. He said look behind the door, what's that red part.... Viper mirror all broke. Turns out almost everybody in management test drove the thing, a supervisor had taken it home, goosed it a bit after he turned onto his road, went into the ditch on one side, then back out and into the ditch on the other side, kinda clipped some trees. The hood (prepainted) for a Viper costs $20,000 from your friendly dealer, probably more now. There's a lot more to the story..... it was written off, and took over a year to "clean up" the mess. The Viper did not belong to the plant manager (proper spelling, mangler) it was his neighbour's. Oopsies!

My truck never had many mechanical issues, in fact the engine was fairly bulletproof. Sure an oil change cost $100 (even doing it myself), the 22" OEM tires cost a lot, and fun upgrades were expensive but I only put about 500 miles/year on mine. The only thing that let that truck down was the fact that it was a 2000's era Dodge Ram with all the cheap plastic interior bits and poor build quality. It's surprising how many clones there were, the hood and body kit were often slapped onto regular Rams. Very few people recognized the truck as a real SRT-10, the #1 question was "That thing got a Hemi?" followed by "Did you make this?" Mine was 1 of only 418 red quad cabs so I never saw another one in the 6 years I owned it.

That's a hilarious story! I feel like you summed up every review the Viper has ever had. Especially in the early Vipers before traction control and ABS, I understand they were quite a handful. I have a friend with a Suzuki GSX-R1000 and I was always scared to ride it... until I wasn't. Just because you have tremendous power at your beck and call it doesn't mean you're going to wreck. Just respect it, use it properly, and stay alert. Now I enjoy the occasional blast on that gixxer (but I always miss my FJR!).

One of my all-time favorite TV commercials:
"That thing got a Hemi?
"Scwheet!"
