Griff, I probably put about 75K miles on my 06 using the EBC HH brake pads...and when I sold the bike it had 102k miles on it, along with the factory rotors.

Seems to me that you ride fine, things just keep trying to jump out an hitch a ride with you.

OEM here. They last forever (brakes? who needs brakes!), and, like Iris and Wheatness, I remember reading somewhere that the can contribute to premature rotor wear and male pattern baldness.

So they can either last a long time, or they can grip.

Somewhere there is a cross-over between grip and longevity, whichever suits you the best.

Bingo.

There are so many things that we can do to tweek the "feel" of the bike to fit what we perceive as perfect. It varies from rider to rider. From suspension settings to brake pad compound, find what feels 'good' to you and go with it.

I made the mistake of trying an aftermarket pad on my FJR once and seriously regretted it. Less than 10k miles and the pads were wore out and all rotors were trashed. The rotors were grooved and below limits for wear (and no the pads were not worn down to metal). Luckily I found some used rotors on ebay and am still happily running those with OEM pads on my 117,000 mile FJR.

Oh yeah, the pads in question were Carbonne Lorraine and were recommended by the parts guy (Gary McCoy?) at a cheap parts source we used to have many years ago.

I replaced the OEM Yamaha pads on my VMax with EBC HH pads and felt a significant difference in stopping power. Strong bite, reduced lever pressure required for stops.

The Vax gen I guys all swear by them and I get why.

Having said that, I have found the stopping power on the FJR to be excellent with OEM pads from the start.

When the time comes, I will likely go with EBC on my FJR.

My local dealer won't even stock OEM pads for FJR's, most people going with the cheaper EBC HH.
I believe issues are model rotor specific?
