Just a thought, if the op is still looking for a way to integrate his existing garage door opener into one of the handlebar switches. Especially with voltage mismatches, but even if the voltages are the same, I'd say you'd still want to isolate the circuits. Toward this, hooking up a small 12vdc relay to trigger off of a handlebar switch such as the hi beam flash, and using the relay's normally open contacts wired in parallel with the garage door opener switch should accomplish what you're looking to do. I can put up a circuit diagram of this idea if you'd like.

I bet that wiring diagram looks like a kids scrawling on an etch-a-sketch. Just guessing...I could be wrong. :)

That would be great NTXFJR. I would like to know where the connector for the flash to pass button is located to utilize it with my opener.

I have this image of Craig drawing on his monitor with crayons...

I saw a device that lets you trigger your garage door through an app on your phone and your home's wifi. Would be nice if they had one that would use GPS and trigger it automatically when you're heading home.

On a GenIII, the connectors for the left control pod are under the windscreen cowling just in front of the instrument panel. Remove windscreen, windscreen brace, cowling panel, voila, everything you need to hook up to is right there.

Wheatie and Oface: where in the hell is that big finger gif thingy that Griff was looking for a couple of months back? :D

Is there a pressing reason to not just hide the remote under the cowling that is above the speedometer. That is where my remote is. I used industrial velcro to secure it in there by wedging it in there. It does not get wet there from rain coming down. I don't spray that area with the power washer and I think minimal water splashes up there in a big downpour. But I will have to replace the battery ever couple of years.

Admittedly i am scared of cutting into any wires on the bike. But I support those if you who are not.

Iirc, he bought a unit that is made for vehicle installs and runs off of 12vdc power. It's not small like the typical door fob is.

Josh I plan to put it into the cowling Its about 2.5" square & I plan to make it plug and play thats why I want to know where the headlight switch connector is. I plan to wire this unit with factory plugs inline so it can be removed without issue and not cause wiring faults down the road. I chose this option for longer range and simplicity once installed (no maintenance powered by the bike)

its just rain wrote: Sun Mar 26, 2017 9:59 am On my '14 I installed a dash to mount my GPS, turns out it's the perfect place to Velcro a garage door opener. I siliconed the heck (no water gets in) out of it then stuck it to the underside of the shelf. You really don't even see it.
I also mounted mine underneath the dashboard shelf: disassembled the garage door opener, screwed the back piece to the shelf, then snapped on the front piece. No waterproofing at all, and it's worked for about 12 months now.

Like Cav47, I believe in keeping things simple.

No Can Do!
Well it looks like what I had hoped to accomplish is not possible, I had hoped the FTP switch or wiring was independent of the high beam and as it turns out it is not. It is the switch that determines what the connection does. the switch is momentary for the flash to pass and flipped up for high beams but ultimately uses the same wire to activate. It would work fine as long as I did not use my high beam but as soon as high beams are flipped on the opener would be constantly sending signal & my fear was it would burn out or overheat and cause other issues that would not be favorable since the unit was not intended to be used in this fashion.
This idea is busted!

The more complicated solution is a latching circuit that will time out, or the simpler solution is a standalone momentary switch. Maybe look at someone's PTT switch for a two-way radio......

Fixed.

You just need one of these.
https://www.amazon.com/Delay-Relay-Swit ... B00VFUG3KK

Configure it for delay off, connect the relay to the switch on the remote and you're all set. Leave you high beams on all day long, the relay will only do a momentary activation. Only catch is you won't be able to toggle the switch with your high beams on.

Thanks Designflaw, I already went with an isolated switch. Had I known of this option while it was torn apart I would have tried it :)

I installed a HUD industries dash shelf just because it makes a garage remote look so good. I still pull the remote off and throw it in the glove box when it’s raining.

I'm glad this thread got resurrected. This reminds me that this is going to be something I do this winter.
Even if all I do is go and find a small compact garage door opener that works with the thingy in my garage.... and put it in the glovebox.

Winter to-do list just keeps getting longer....

Newegg advertised a wifi opener that worked with an app on your phone. When you get within a certain distance it opens your door for you. Its been awhile since I saw the ad,but I am sure there are a few on Google.
