Whoa! Didn't you get the snow and salt from this weekend? Or did you turn one into a salt bike?

Since I'm retarred, I just waited until it got warmer. 23F earlier this morning, but weather is such I had to go get the 'V' for an alphabetical game we play in another sandbox. So, at 12:30 it got up to 0C/32 and off I went. Heated gear on of course. Wasn't bad at all, only when I got out into the open where it was kinda breezy. All good.

salt washes off...

I bought an Ancel AD410 OBD2 code reader and an adapter cable for my FJR just in case I screw up somethings and need to clear a code. Is this tool suitable for clearing codes on the FJR?

Nope. It flurried a little but nothing laid. Roads weren't even treated in my area.

No experience, but I'd hope so. No need really to spend a lot, even cheap readers and an app can read and clear codes. Plug it in and turn on the ignition switch..... try it out. If it displays real time data, then start the bike and see things like rpm, coolant temp, throttle angle, etc.

Big booty Judy with the dirtymax throws ghost codes constantly. A cheap Amazon reader and the torque app let's me verify the codes and clear them. Total cost about $50.

Ahh. I thought your area got hit like ours did. We didn't get much snow but it did get real icy and our roads are now white with salt.
Glad to hear you are still out riding, although at 19 degrees I'm not as jealous as I normally would be.

Erie, PA is roughly 5 hours or so northwest of us and right on the lake. They got absolutely hammered with lake affect snow and I heard reports of over 4 feet of snow. I'm in south-central PA about 10 miles from the state capitol of Harrisburg. So far we've had nothing and I'm perfectly okay with that! It was a balmy 25 this morning on my way in.

Coworker rides a Harley Davidson Roadglide and his bike died on the way in this morning. Battery is the key fob died and it shut the bike off when he stopped. He had a spare battery but boy was he pissed.

My wing has a warning light when the key fob battery gets low. I put a new battery in every Spring so I don't have to worry about it.

My Honda Pilot, which I drive every day, suddenly wouldn't open the doors or start the car the morning on the way to the airport a month ago. I got the spare fob and it did not work either. I did the emergency start procedure but was pretty worried something big was up and I was going to be stranded at the airport when I got back. New fob battery fixed it. Pretty convenient when they work, little unsettling when they don't.

I'm sure you took the high ground and didn't harass your Harley buddy at all......

The BMW GSA has a fob. The TFT dash will start warning you when the fob battery reaches 50%. If it goes dead, they give you a small plastic key you keep in your jacket or wallet. If you hold this key in a particular spot inside the rear fender well, the bike will start. I would prefer a simple coded key as the 14 GS has, but that has gone the way of technology. Good thing the FJR has always been a simple key.

We knew when he walked into the building this morning something was up. Mike was far moody than normal and he was a few minutes late which is really out of character for him. He walked into the office later and was talking with me about the fob since he knows I'd worked at a Harley dealership for years and told me what had happened....again. Same thing happened to him almost exactly one year ago. He could tell because he'd put a small slip of paper inside the fob with the battery replacement date written on it 11/29/23 and now today 12/03/24. Actually I didn't give him much grief about it.He's the only one here that rides even remotely the mile I do in a year so while we mess with each other there is also a great mutual respect.

Only missed it by a year lol. Maybe he needs to put that alarm on his phone, as the previous method didn't seem to work.

I was more referring to the trouble people have had on the mechanical side of the switch. I myself have been playing the odds on that one for about 75K miles on mine.

Of course, fobs stay in the pocket, keys tend to stay in the hands. If you are a total idiot, you could drop your key down an elevator shaft. That'd never happen with a fob. Dunno who'd be dumb enough to do that though.

We've had chip keys in FJR's up here for years, and nary a problem. Some Brits had a wire to the reader chafe..... but the good news is no batteries to go wrong.
