Yesterday, I "pre-packed" up the FJR, the DR, and the riding gear. Too cold in New England for Pants riding, and there's no appreciable change in site. After a short visit from our son, we will go home. It's time.

How cold is "too cold"?
You have had a pretty remarkable stretch of great weather and even if hypothermia isn't likely to happen, there probably isn't a lot you have missed - at least in your vicinity. Once the end is in sight, I certainly understand the feeling that you need to be moving on. On the road by this time next week? Gone before the snow...

How's the truck and transmission at this point? Will it make the trip?

Is riding the FJR doing something to it or doing something with it?

The forecast here (and at elevations like here) is mid-30s in the morning and 45-55 in the afternoon with strong winds. If I was desperate, I'd plug in the heated liner and go. But I'm gonna hike with our son instead.

First time I went to TwentyNine Palms (in July), I got on the A/C bus in Ontario California, and when I stepped out at our destination....pizza oven was exactly what I thought of. That or a blast furnace.

There are now a couple of Lou Malnati's in the Phoenix area. I think you just inspired my lunch today. It's only supposed to get to 104 degrees today. So, I'll take the FJR!

So says the man who lives in the valley of the blast furnace. And it is the middle of October.

Bet that pizza was still hot.

Loaded it (with it's DR friend) onto the trailer. The Reverse Snowbirds are starting to pack.

Lows going from high 50’s to high 30’s over the coming week.

Unpacked the heated gloves and liner, pulled out the half zip freeze-out pullovers. Not actually cold, but cold is in sight.

Offloaded rain shells, since it’s cool enough for nonstop aerostich. It’s a different time of year.

Yea, but you can run up Kelly Canyon Road where it's 71F. I'd have to ride a loooooooooong way to get to where it's 71F during the day.

I would also have to ride a long way to where it is 71°F! (from the other end of the scale) We might get to the 60's by the weekend...(with some overnight lows near freezing).

I haven't seen 70 degrees in at least 3 weeks, maybe longer. Looking at the home forecast (about 60 overnight, mid-80s during the day), that is going to take some getting used to.

Back somewhat on topic, today I pick up a Frankenstein FJR Fuel Tank (is that the right word?) for a friend. Happy to tote it home for him. I have absolutely no use for that - my bladder can't outlast the OEM tank. But my friend? Different story.

Seems to me that the term is Frankentank. I have no interest in riding that far between stops although I have been known to carry an extra five litres on my F700GS to extend range by 120 km or so. Around 15% shorter tank range than the FJR and am more likely to be riding it where fuel opportunities average a longer distance in between. Needed it for a stretch of the TransLab last year although MIGHT have been OK if I had dropped average speed a few km/hr. Convenient sometimes...

Today I replaced all 4 front brake caliper pins with the Ray approved solution aka the Honda pins in the photo below. Thankfully all the old pins came out without issues. Didn't even have to remove the brake caliper, double bonus!

Today was the first day the new Neiko hex sockets were used. Project Farm Youtuber recommend these. Neiko was in his top three picks. Good enough for me. My old set is likely worn on the edges so to avoid ruining the hex screws I got these. Better to avoid a problem than use suspect tools.
