(yesterday)

Order a set of Roadsmart 4s for it. $394.00 shipped. For an FJR rider, I suppose ordering tires is hardly "news"..... (sigh)...

I remember when you could get a good set of tires mounted at the dealership for $300. Sigh.

That goes in the “Complaint Thread”.

Just a few months ago, a set of RS3s were $250 shipped, but they’ve gone stupid like the rest of the world.

Best price for RS3s today is $363. For less than 10% more, relatively speaking, my RS4 purchase seems like a bargain. Plus it will give me a good opportunity to see if the purported mileage increase is true (for me). I’ll be able to use the same set all summer in New England and not have to worry about tires while over there.

First wash of the year and from the ride back from Florida. I can't say what the rinse water looked like. Gad it was filthy. Wax this weekend. Getting ready for a trip down to Georgia.

I neglected to post the correct price I paid for the RS4s. My ebay invoice shows $402.75 including tax and shipping. Still a good deal. The RS3s (including tax, free shipping) would be $394.86. So... $8.11 more is definitely worth it!

With the PAIR off, the engine bay is wide open, no obstructions, valve cover can come straight back and out without much drama. Going back in is also no drama, just the usual care not to dislodge the gasket as you go over the cam chain. I'd say now even easier than a Gen1 or 2 since there are no throttle cables in the way.
You DID make a video of this process to share with all of us, didn't you? :stickpoke:

I've done a bunch of valve checks, but I think only two on Gen 3+. I can't remember everything. I can't recall if I have undone cables at the grip. On those I have, it's a bitch! (Recently did it on my '23 installing Helibar Bridge) IIRC, I would pay particular attention on the dance to remove the valve cover so I could repeat it in reverse upon assembly. Also, be careful of those JIS screwss holding throttle cables. Make sure you use JIS and have impact driver at the ready. DAMHIK.

No pics, shoulda... The screws on the throttle housing are 4mm hex. Formerly JIS on some prior models..
The whole premise is to unplug everything on the harness as you travel down it from the valve cover..... coolant temp sensor, coils, injectors, PAIR, TPS, cylinder identification sensor, and everything. Pry out the Christmas tree clips, then the harness can be completely taken out of the way and swung up front.... don't worry too much about which connector goes where, they only mate up to the proper thing. Label a couple if you want.

And...make sure you get the throttle cable all snugged up properly.

Sunday installed a Helibar bridge on my 2014. Came across a used one at a good price, just needed the brake line extension. Finally ordered that and got it all installed after our return from SEO Ramble. Rode it to work this morning. It's a really different riding position and going to take some getting used to.

Change engine oil and filter. This bike doesn't burn a drop of oil.
Checked and blew air filter clean.
Changed rear end oil
Pulled Aux lights off fender and replaced wave washers - the vibration was causing the old ones to loosen

Finally, my SR-157 Givi rack apparently got "tweaked" when I fell in Colorado a few FJRs and 100,000 miles ago. I didn't realize it, but when the top box is installed, it "leans" just ever so slightly down on the left side. I tried to pry on the flat metal mounting plate on the left side to no avail - no point in torquing the subframe. So I shimmed it with a couple of 0.045" fender washers I had lying around. I think it's closer to level. We'll see.

Ready to go for Toter's event.

I bought a set of Dunlop Roadsmart 4's on a eBay link provided by ScooterG. There were two sets left when I pulled the trigger on Saturday. Today there is only one set left.

I was planning on dual sport riding this week but there is still snow in the mountains near Hells Canyon on the Oregon side. So instead I am going to Canada to enjoy some great Canadian hospitality at Kaslo BC near the site of the last Canadian FJR rally. Love it up there.

I certainly won't turn it away, Ray. Thank you. I'm presuming that you are trailering down? If so, please bring it. Let's see what my modification has done. No point in hogging a resource that someone else might could use if it's not necessary.

Ok, looks like the BMW guys figured out how to park in a large parking area and give decent spacing between the bikes. When I ride with my Canadian Harley friends we could park in an empty Costco parking lot and they will still park so close to me I can't open a saddlebag.
