Don't avoid too many, there's the old adage for old people, "never pass up the opportunity to take a leak."

We had a little RTE to Mt Airy, NC for a porkchop sammich at Snappy Lunch. A bit foggy to start but became a fine day for riding. We had a good combo of leisurely winding, twisty and go-to-jail high speed roads.

Picked it up from the auto train motorcycle carriers and proceeded to my work conference in Orlando. 88 feeling like 90+

Let's say the ride to the autotrain and down to Florida was interesting.

That's pretty cool for it to work out for you like that. Wish this had caught on more and was offered on more routes from more stations.

On the ride over the North Cascades Hwy with ~G I shot this photo.

It used to read 69 miles but then the gas station closed. Pity.

Well, today I got my overpacked tool bag down to something reasonable in weight and still useful as far as my meager abilities go for a big trip. I also took a look at the air filter, a few bees stuck in there as well as plenty of dirt. Thanks to friends, got a link to order an air filter for the June trip.

Bike is ready and staged for a ride tomorrow in NC, TN...Rt80, Roan Mtn, Hot Springs, Trust, Luck , 276/215/178...and a spur side trip to run hard on a section of 19W that did me in 5 years ago. Just because.

Agree, particularly a run out west if only the same distance as VA to FL. Big delays on this trip which is unfortunate and hasn't been the norm. Really no fault of Amtrack as freight train take priority, so we wait on single track. I really enjoy riding the train.

Cleaned it up after riding 1400 miles over the last 4 days in Washington, NE Oregon and a sliver of Idaho.

For 2 out of my 3 crashes, I purposely went back to the scene of the idiocy (in my case). I got off the bike and walked it from several angles. I wanted to visualize what I did wrong (again - in my case, it was my own doing). That did help me overall.

To visit the 3rd scene would require a trip to western Colorado. I'm certainly not ruling it out, but for now, it will have to wait.

Nothing wrong with waiting to visit Colorado on a street bike. It is my least favorite western state to ride. The speed limits are 10-20 mph lower than other western states and the good stuff is separated by vast stretches of range land.

On the other hand it might be fun to take a dual sport bike to Colorado or rent a side x side.

Rode the 13 on a loop that Duane and I have done a number of times. This time solo. But not really. His routes are his, so the places, overlooks, and roads will always be his. The route was indicated in yesterday's post.

Roan Mtn will always remind me of one Duane Wellington.(1911)

250 miles today with a buddy across the southern part of the state so he could test ride a 2024 Yamaha Tracer GT+. The results were underwhelming. The electronic suspension only has two (2) settings, the saddle bags are small, the wind protection is not good, and the shorter wheelbase is a bit too short for long distance touring. Now - on the good side, it runs like a scalded ape, the transmission is silky smooth, the TFT is spiffy, and Yamaha finally went to the T32 as an OEM tire. This would be a good twisty bike, where you could bring a few things for an overnight stay in the mountains. But not a good cross country sport touring bike IMO.

We also looked at the new Vstrom 1000DE, the Suzuki GSX 1000 GT, the Translap, and the Tenere 700. None of those bikes are a serious replacement for his 2015 Versys 1000 LT. (Sport touring segment).

So for now, he will hold tight. Me thinks the Barvarian Sirens make get a chance to flash their perky boobies. We’ll see…

None the less, it was a nice ride.

Stay thirsty, my friends…..

I agree the Versys 1000 trumps all the ones you mentioned. Might want to look at the Suzi 1000 GX, but I'd keep the Kawi rather than spend that kind of dough. There really isn't a replacement for it and it's a good bike.

Everything has a high cost of ownership if it's dealer maintained. Not so much if you dig in and get your hands dirty.
