Auto train south then ride home, saves about 900 miles on the slab.

We did the Auto Train years ago.

It was way better than expected.

Yep done that before for another work conference. I can buy a new set of tires for less than one way. If i go, that's what I will do, use the RSIII on it then a new set for my trip. I have a new set of Road 6 in the garage for EOM if needed... :>) hate to burn them running 3000 miles of flat and straight.

I stayed in a roomette when i used the auto train and rode the bike. That was great. Only two bikes on the train that trip down to FL. Probably do the train in 2025 if i go to Key West. I've used it alone and my wife and i several times, not a bad experience.

I got out for a short shakedown ride today. Last fall my heated gear started giving me trouble and I decided that eventhough I found the likely culprit it was time to upgrade the accessory wiring I'd added 10 years ago. One thing led to another and I ended rewiring the world - including a custom harness for my Adaptiv TPX radar detector. Who knew that funky 6 pin mini-plug is actually an old IBM PS/2 keyboard connector? Wonder who thought that was a good idea.

Anyway it all seems to be working correctly. Time will tell if my wiring/soldering skills have improved or not. Man it sure felt good to get back out there. Last ride for me was before Thanksgiving.

Of course what I should have done was join the Barnestormer over in Beallsville for a serious ride but I chickened out. Shame on me.

Got out each of the past 2 days for rides on the 2013 purchased in November. Almost 300 miles between the 2 days. Doing the 2024 GLMC Grand Tour with this year's theme involving compass points. Places with north, south, east, west in their names. Cities, towns, states, counties, boroughs, and townships. Need 20 points to be a finisher, I'm already AR 30.

Got out on the bike for a little over an hour yesterday...missed a couple opportunities to ride in January, so yesterday was my first ride of the year.

Good to read that the Yankees are getting opportunities to ride. Qwells the PMS, overall, me thinks.

Today, the FJR gets a bath after last weeks' East Texas jaunt. Something I haven't done since I bought this bike (used) in April was to go over all of the bolts/fasteners with a torque wrench. That proved inconvenient last week - more on that in the upcoming ride report. So today, I'll go through the bike front to back and make sure everything is tight.

Not near as dramatic (or costly) as that. Stay tuned.

Lightly raining here yesterday, so pulled the FJR into the shop and retorqued the steering head bearings. A little extra work with the Helibridge. Torqued to 37 ft-lbs, backed off and retorqued to 13 ft-lbs. Buttoned back up. Quick ride up and down the driveway. Steering felt a little floppy. I'll test ride today. Before the retorque, I could feel slight wobble at 40-45. We will see.
I spent most of my money on guns, motorcycles, women, and whiskey. The rest I just wasted!

In my experience once the ball bearings get the wobble there is no re-torquing that can cure. Each ball has a little divot it likes to sit in.

Got out for a ride today. Took the scenic route to Ellijay, then the scenic route to Blue Ridge, then up to the Cherohala Skyway. Found a little snow up there. Scenic route home, with an ice cream stop. Gorgeous weather, pretty much had the roads to myself. Steering head adjustment was good. No more wobbles from 50-40. 311 miles today. I'm liking the Continental Road Attack 4s.

Rode it to work this morning...Woohoo. First time in 4 years, the only good reason for returning to work in the office.

Yesterday, I washed the FJR, and the 21 GS. Both were pretty filthy having been ridden on some wet pavement. Pretty happy with the Conti Trail Attack 3s on the GS. They've done an Arkansas trip, Maggie Valley, EOM, and lots of N. GA mountains. They are a more road oriented tire than the TMMs, but do have thicker tread which is less prone to punctures on gravel. The tires have 6,579 mi. Rear is a little flattened but looks like it could go 2-3k more miles. Front looks really good with just a hint of scalloping starting. Tires handle well on road.

A few years back i tried road attack 3's on the Fjr.

They stuck like glue, but we're scalloped badly and warn to the wear bears in 3.5k. i typically get about 10k out of a set of tires. Cheaper up front, but far more costly per mile.

I take it that Road Attack and Trail Attack have different tire compositions?

Backed the 14 GS out past the FJR(nice and squeaky clean), and took about a 185 mi. ride today. First ride with new MSR Explorer jacket and pants. Really like this gear. Really well made and comfortable. Temps ran from 52-60 and the final ride after dropping in on my grandkids for a visit was 40 degrees. Stayed comfortable and warm all day. TWO was stone empty, so were the roads. Surprised since it was such a nice day. Guess some people are actually working. Who'da thunk it!
