Went out for about a 100 mi. ride. Son bought me some MSR battery heated gloves and wanted to test them out. 38 degrees at home, and had a little pucker factor at the top of Ft. Mountain as the temp. dropped to 31 with damp roads, and still some snow on the ground. Hands stayed warm. Not intensely warm, but I know the backs of my hands and fingers would have become uncomfortably cold without the heat. So, thumbs up for these. Supposed to last 3-4 hours on high. I have a second set of batteries, so should be good there. First experience with any heated gear.

It’s awesome, isn’t it?

When you're from the North, there are many rides before, after and during Winter that could never happen without heated gear. My Gerbings heated jacket liner and gloves still work well after 21 years.

Hung my 2024 FJR calendar in my gear locker and added up my 2023 riding stats. Started the year with 121,655 on the bike, and in 96 riding days I rolled up to 143,631 for 21,976 miles.

Wait, 24 miles short of 22k? That cannot stand. So when the wifey said we needed milk, I volunteered to get it. And on a crisp 33* day, I took 40+ miles to get to the store 1.5 miles away.

So final 2023 stats: 97 days ridden for 22,019 miles.

Have a great 2024 all and I'll see ya down the road.

What to do when it's 28 degrees in the morning and it's snowing in WV?

Simple, pick another state :)

Heated gear for the win :) Another 400 miles in today.

First ride of the new year, I rode to work this morning. Nothing earth shattering but at least I got a ride in.

I like the rides where you DON'T shatter something. Kudos!

If things fall into place, 2025 will be the year we get some rocky mountain dust on it

Rode it to the office at FJR-nominal velocity.

Sort of experimented by swapping windshields. My winter gear has evolved over the years. I run barkbuster storm handguards, and big Aeroflow screens in the winter.

I’ve switched to Ken Phenix heated gloves, and added the zip-in aerostich windblocker liner to my Darien jacket and heated liner.

This is a pretty bomb proof setup, but I wanted to see what it was like to fall back to the Yamaha touring screen in cold weather.

The touring screen is pretty sweet, but offers far less shoulder and side protection.

Same temp, humidity, and speeds. The touring shield was comparable to the larger shields in noise and turbulence at speed. But heat stripping was exponentially worse.

It was almost as if it negated my heated liner. Everything else was good, but heat-wise, just a ginormous difference.

That is good info.

I agree with that. I run the touring screen and about the only thing that really isn't toasty on my upper body is my upper arms. I'm not currently running any hand guards and the Ken Phenix gloves I got from Lumberg don't even think about getting cold on medium settings.

Sunny skies, 63 degrees. Needed to run some errands. Take the FJR. Took the long way home.

Checked the tire balance on the recently installed take-offs. Smooth as butter all the way to 103 indicated. Good enough.

Stay thirsty, my friends....

That was probably a good move. I was told you shouldn't keep using the same rubber over and over again.
