Managed to get out for about 40 miles on the new ride, went to the Legion Post to pay my dues. Installed my Techmount stem nut with GPS mounting plate for my Garmin. Put a RAM ball in the hole on the clutch perch. My Clearwater Darlas arrived so once I got home I started on the installation. Have discovered this 2013 must be an early bike with the battery cover panel that requires pulling ALL of the dash panels. Add that to my list of things to remedy while it's apart. Found an old write up with pictures of just what to cut so it'll be like the 2014. Verdict still out on seats. Saddleman is not as hard as the Sargent and both are better than stock. Need more miles to form a proper opinion.

Not particularly. But last weekend in the Hill Country was awesome.

A lot of old bikes at the Wheels Through Time Museum had seats like that.

Not sure what methyl hydrade (methanol) will do for you. In the days before E10 gasoline, it would help absorb some water but the ethanol in gasoline does that sufficiently if the tank is full to help reduce condensation. Sta-Bil brand says it is 95% petroleum distillate and 5% "additive". I don't really know if it does any good but I figure it can't hurt.

I buy the Canadian Tire knockoff of Sta-Bil - $10.70/4 ounces (but only $17.09 CAD for a litre). Sta-Bil brand is about 30% more.

Not a lot of magic with stabilizers. Most times the main ingredient in stabilizers and fuel conditioners is naptha.... under several names, but it is indeed "petroleum distillate". Add some isopropanol and it will dissipate any condensation or water far better than ethanol (which saturates at 4.5%). For stabilizer, I use Seafoam, it's naptha and isopropanol.....

Actually, water is soluble in E10 to approximately 0.5% (depending on temperature and exact formulation). This is still 0.64 ounces per gallon or something over 4 ounces per tank - not an inconsiderable amount. Of course, this is the saturation point after thorough mixing etc. I would also note that your "fresh" gasoline might not be absolutely dry from the station so buy from a retailer that has a high turnover rate; especially for the last fill before storage. Beter to start with close to zero, if possible.

No magic with Sta-Bil or any other additive with respect to keeping gasoline "fresh". I agree that Seafoam would probably do pretty much the same but I think the most important thing is to fill the tank completely with FRESH gasoline (with minimal headspace). Otherwise, moisture-laden air is drawn into the tank when temperature drops (and air is expelled when temperature rises). The moisture in the air is absorbed into the gasoline and water content in the gas builds up over many cycles. There is much less air exchange if the tank is full.

E10 makes the gasoline more tolerant to modest amounts of moisture but the isopropanol should help further.

Hardly,

Plus, I thought the Wheaton clause was always in effect around here. I guess sometimes it just needs to be reposted from time to time as a gentle reminder.

So far this month, I’ve learned about the importance of kickstands, and of clutch levers. That’s even better than book learnin.
Rode it all damn day.

Lumberg is gracious enough to not mention that he SAVED my ass by noticing, as I was backing away from the Waffle House, that my bolt/pin at the clutch lever was unscrewed upwards almost all the way out of the connection. Evidently my locknut came loose and fell off. I would have been major league screwed if that pin came out. Lumberg saved the day without making a personal judgement.

Also, Lumberg is by far the fastest rider in our 3 rider group, jwilly-like.

Because of these fine gentleman, it was an awesome day. However, I think Lumberg face-palmed on one or three passes. In my defense, Lumberg put me in front. Not likely that happens again... Lol.

Anyways, 470 awesome mountain miles on a stock seat. No tickets, no ditch surfing, awesome weather and pavement, guffaws over the intercom, not bad for a late November ride.
A great all damn day ride, indeed. A much NEEDED all damn day ride. Thanks for putting this together Mark. Thanks Lee for helping with understanding weather forecasts and for doing the pre-flight on Wheaties machine. Going forward, those of us that ride with Wheat will have to do more than make sure his tires have enough rubber for the day.
Reposted.

Our last ride together.

I rode it about 35 miles on back roads. Since nature gave us a 55 degree day here in Pittsburgh, I thought I'd take advantage of it. I would've ridden a much longer ride to SEO or somewhere, but I'm still recovering from a lower back injury. Since I've been stretching and not doing any heavy lifting, my back has been showing major improvements. I'm going to nurse myself back to a pain free lower back. Ski season is almost here and I don't want to miss it.

Washed it, in the rain…. Got some kind of crystalline shit on it riding to get a new front tire installed Friday. Big grains like broken glass. So, after nothing more than wipedowns for 6 weeks or more, it got a proper wet wash.

So I find myself wearing a full set of RS3’s, which I haven’t had good performance out of in cold, wet weather. Time will tell.

Been a terrible year for tires with multiple punctures and cuts. lol.

Spent all day installing or trying to install stuff on the 2013. Have to call Clearwater Lights tomorrow with a few questions about their wiring instructions. Found several missing fasteners while working on this bike. Just sent an order in to Partshark for about $50 worth of small items .

We get a high of 14°C (57°F) tomorrow, BUT with 40-70 mm of rain and 80-100 km wind gusts. Probably won't be much motorcycling...
