My turn arrived!

Post by cowcop »

While pleasantly working the twisties on a local back road, I started to carve a sharp left turn when...bang ....skid...thump! :o
I have no recollection of the low side event beyond a 'voice' telling me to let go of the bars before I left the pavement. Good thing too , as the bike went over an embankment and began a cross country tour without me.
People who found me said that I had rode into gravel and sand on the pavement as I entered the curve and I guess the FJR will not turn as well on gravel.
The good news was a concussion, separated shoulder and my AGATT destroyed. The bad news is I will have a few 2009 parts for sale soon as the bike is toast! I was lucky the trunk and saddlebags were at home, and the PCV was protected, but that is close to everything that can be saved. Stock exhaust is also in storage.
Waiting to see what the friendly insurance company does to me and I will base my search on the outcome.
Another thing I learnt was that I do not bounce and skid at 59 as well as I did at 16. With that in mind, I will be very careful in my 80's when I play the LORENZO Game again!

ps... thanks Wayne.... name change etc worked fine.

Well that was no fun. Glad you are relatively unscathed. Good luck with the insurance buzzards and your new search.

And I hear ya about that not bouncing as well stuff.

Thanks guys. All things considered, not too bad.

Anyone heard anything about the 2014 with cross plane crank?
My concussion must be severe. Management says I can have a scooter with four wheels a very low power!

That sucks, but bikes can be replaced. I'm finding at 58, I don't do nearly anything as well as when I was 16.

Holy cow dude - glad you're ok.

If you'd like some insight about parting out a bike, pm me - I just went through this - actually, still am - just sold another piece last week. I made out well, mostly because of the suspension pieces (Ohlins) that I moved to the new bike.

Damn man, glad you are alright. Heal up and find something new (I hear 2013 FJR's are kinda nice) to throw your leg over.

Wow sorry to hear about your accident.

I did nearly the same thing on a Vstrom a few years ago but got very lucky and saved it. I learned a few things about myself from that and one of them is I was accepting too much risk too often. So I made some changes. At 57 I'd rather be the slow guy rather than the fall guy, again. Like most out here I am no where near a flexible as I used to be. Asphalt surfing is not for me.

Heal well and all the best.

Ya 2013. It's an order of magnitude nicer than the Gen 1. Very refined.

This.

I used to be pretty athletic, built for endurance not strength. Hockey for 6 years (until everybody got big and I didn't), soccer for 2, hardball for 4 (including two championships).

So on Sunday I was out playing baseball with my gf's 10 year old daughter. Just a plastic bat and a rubber ball type thing in the backyard. I couldn't hit the damn ball for the life of me! It's embarrassing as hell. Me, the guy who could literally knock a hardball out of the park regularly, can't hit a stupid ball to a plastic bat.

Feck.

But I can still kick her ass arm wrestling. I think.

Sorry about your mishap, but it's awesome that you are relatively unscathed. like the pilots say, "Any landing you can walk away from...."

At 66, I can't remember what I could do at 16.

Glad to hear that you made it to the "club" relativity unscathed. Hope your heal up is quick and insurance woes are few.

I can't remember what the first is.............

Best wishes recovering from the mishap. Glad you're in one piece.
