Welcome. Lots of people here have 50k plus on their fjr's for a reason. I smile ear to ear everytime I get on. Like others have said, ride the bike for a while then decide on after market stuff.

Welcome to FJRiders, weberg1.

Must have? Helmet, gloves, jacket, pants, and boots. You can get hurt and/or arrested without them. Oh yeah, GAS CARD, because you can only go about 225 miles before you need more gas.

Smartassery comes in wagon loads around here.

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.
Yeah, I ride motorcycles. I know why dogs put their heads out of the car windows.
Yeah, I fly hang gliders (3000 hrs.+). I know why the birds sing.

Welcome! As others have said ride it awhile and figure out what it is that you may want to have. read through these threads and see what others have done to get ideas. Attend a tech day if one is available in your general area or attend a weekend riding event so you can see and talk to other FJR riders.

You are moving the wrong way, all the good riding is where you came from. We love these bikes and some of us keep them forever and others spend big $$$ replacing them every few years with a newer shinier version of the same bike. I suspect you'll be enjoying yours just as much.

Magnolia Tx. Put 120 on a "get to know each other ride" today. I can see we are going to get along quite well.
I pointed it N.W. and then the smile kicked in. I really needed this. Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome.

You really don't need to do anything to an FJR. Like Wheaty posted above. Ride it and get to know it. Then you will know if you need to change something. For example some people change the windshield, for me the stock windshield works perfectly. I also don't feel the need for risers. Personally I had to change the seat. I like Corbin seat, your mileage might vary.

I also have the Corbin smuggler. I really like it, but mostly use it for day rides. I take the Smuggler off and put the rear seat back on to go on long trips. It's easier to strap a bag down that way.

I would recommend these reflective stickers right away. They are cheap and look good. If you ride at night they really make you visible.

Everything else can wait 3k or 4k miles.

Welcome!! Ride it a few thousand to figure out what would make the ride more comfortable for you; seat, raise the handle bars, tall windshield, etc. Once you have that nailed down, figure out what you will need to add to take it on a two or three week vacation.
