Allen C has been using a reusable filter for a while now. I am not sure of the brand, but it looks similar. I recall him stating that he will never go back to the regular ones.
I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!

Without addressing the filter... Looks cool and may provide some oil cooling, just like the existing FJR oil cooler does. The filter contains a magnet to pickup metal bits, it will be interesting to see how much aluminum from the aluminum engine will be stuck to the magnet ;) (If it picks up metal bits, probably your transmission already pops out of second gear.)

They almost had me until I watched the video on "cleaning" the filter...
The pennies you save over disposable filters you'll surely spend ten fold on brake cleaner, soap and water and of course... Time and effort.

No need to keep a filter on hand over an extended trip? Cost over the life of the bike? Variances in mass produced filters?
I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!

I used a similar mesh filter on a Sprint Car Engine - saw about a 7 HP increase on the dyno with the mesh filter over a comparable paper element.

The Mesh was important for weekly maintenance as well, we caught several problems before they became "Big" problems but the service was a bit more severe than the FJR.

Saw this on a Bring More Wallet website and wondered if anyone here had ever tried on their FJR.

It won't pay off for at least 15 oil changes before the cost of chemicals, but it sure looks cool.

'Cool beans about no more old filters in the landfill, but that seemingly "green" benefit is more than negated by the use/disposal of all the chemicals/solvents that would be used to service the filter...
IMHO much of what we do to be "green" is just trading one form of pollution for another... 'Same goes for all the hype around electric vehicles.

I went through the cost/benefit/filtering ability analysis years ago, I don't want to get too much into it, and a couple of guys here are using them. Your engine isn't going to blow up.. call me skeptical about 7 hp because of a filter only, but sprint cars engines nowhere near the same as FJR's... will say the secret to marketing "7 times more flow.." is to filter less (laws of physics). On the opposite end of the scale, using a Purolator Pure One is not a good idea on an M/C (nor recommended by Purolator)... their numbers 7-9 gpm flow - 20 microns, 9-11 gpm flow - 30 microns (Purolator Classic and most filters), begs the question what oil pump puts out 70 gpm.. FSM does not say what an FJR oil pump flow capacity is. My guess is it does not circulate all the 1 gal. FJR oil capacity every minute, so who needs "7 times flow" except maybe sprint cars and dragsters. The Scotts was the original mesh one way back, lots of copies available now. Their claim "passes ASTM316 test for 36 microns".

While I don't disagree with any of that, is there a problem with FJR motors not lasting long enough due to oil failures? Oil running too hot a problem on the FJR? Excessive engine wear characteristics on cold starts?

Looks to me like they are trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist on the FJR. Now, I'd put one on my car in a minute. Looks like it would shine in that environment.

Discussions about how to save money on oil filters or engine oil are not well thought through.
Simply compare theoretical/estimated cost savings to the cost of an engine rebuild.

There are no discussions about which oil, or oil filter are cheapest amongst Vincent owners..the reason is quite simple. The cost of a Vincent engine rebuild is about $25,000 (CDN)

True but FJR’s aren’t known for dying due to engine wear. So many examples of bikes with over 100,000 miles on them out there. I’ve seen photos of 2 FJR engines with about 100,000 miles that still had crosshatch marks on the cylinders. 100,000 miles and crosshatch marks on the cylinder isn’t a sign of oil problems that need to be solved.

Doesn't seem like they are trying to solve a problem for FJR's, just a product in general that happens to fit FJR's as well as many other bikes. They aren't solving a problem, they are selling a product.
