16k miles maintenance...

Post by CollingsBob »

My ‘17 ES has approx. 20,000km on it..the 16,000mile/25,000km is coming soon. Should I adhere strictly to the schedule, or can it be “bent” by a few (1000) kilometers?

There is nothing in the 16k/25km service that is a 'critical component'. ± a few thousand m/km won't make a significant difference. Almost all the items for this service are actually 'Check' items. The only 'Do' items are:

Change: brake fluid, engine oil, coolant, final gear oil,
Lube: brake lever pivot, clutch lever pivot, shift pedal pivot, center stand and side stand pivots

Breath easy dude :)

You spent $10k+ USD (new) and you're balking at $50 in supplies? If you can't afford maint, tires, and riding gear, you can't afford a bike. Sell it now before you hand off your self-made nightmare to another owner.

Unless he is in the middle of an extended trip where maintenance may not be convenient or possible (the best possible reason for a delay).

I’m quite old..so old that I’ve stopped buying green bananas, so scheduling something a couple of months in advance is simply not prudent.

Then I’m screwed because I’ve been collecting all of the oil that’s oozed out of my Vincent over the years, filtering it through my mistresses panty hose, adding fuel oil to it to restore the viscosity, then re-using it.

Well, because I don’t want it to break down while it’s dragging my wrinkled ass around the country side..

You're obviously an optimist...
...if you think yer gonna last long enough for your FJR to let you down.
