Bike will not start

Post by wellsj »

Had a PCIII for a while and decided to go ahead and finally put the thing on the bike while I was adding a switched power block for accessories. I plugged in unit, connected ground wire and unplugged the O2 sensor.
Put bike all back together and go to start and all it does is turn over.
When I turn the key on I do see the light graph light up on the PCIII, so I know it is getting power.

Can unplugging the O2 sensor cause this?

For those that may ask, this is a 2007 model

It shouldn't since you are supposed to leave the O2 unplugged with a PCIII. While I was lucky and mine cam pre-installed on my bike, there's a chance that you might have crossed a wire or not made a good connection somewhere. Best bet is to go back through it and take your time. I've seen posts about no-starts on PCIII installs before and it's usually what I mentioned. Could also be the unit itself, it's electronic and that means it can shit the bed at any time sadly.

My process of elimination would be as follows

1. Double check all wiring
2. Remove the switched power block and use normal power
3. Bypass switched power and PCIII (back to stock) and make sure something else isn't going on.
Trying to be different, just like everyone else.

Are you sure you unplugged o2 sensor. When I installed mine I unplugged the crank position sensor because I just eyeballed the wire trace. It would not start and I quickly realized wrong connector. They are in same kinda location... Sorta. Dumb mistake took seconds to realize what I did.

Went by a picture that I found posted somewhere showing the O2 sensor wire. Black connector, 4 wires ( 2 black, 1 blue, 1 white)

Is your tank still up?
I think my 07 connector is white? Can't remember.

Jim... Either you pulled the wrong sensor or your ground is not good. Both will give you the same result. You can use it with the sensor plugged in. Put it back and see what happens.

If those check out ok, the unit may be bad. They're pretty plug and play.

It may be something even simplier. Did you plug the connectors back onto the tank when you put the bike back together? Please don't ask how I know this can cause a problem.
Sometimes simple things like this get overlooked towards the end of the job. If you turn the key to on and don't hear the fuel pump run until there is pressure then start with the connectors under the tank.

Jim,

I had a PCiii die on my '04. It cycled and showed the gtg lights, but we putting no fuel to the cylinders. Once unplugged, the bike fired right up.

I'd start with backing up to a stock set up - unplug the pciii and ensure everything is plugged back in, and try to start the bike. If it starts, bingo.

Do you have a map loaded to the pciii? It's most likely something simple...

Sure that the plugs are connected under tank as the fuel gauge works and I hear the pump.
Wayne I think it has the Useless Pickles map loaded as the unit came from another forum member.
