Ha! When I first got mine I had someone pull out in front of me on the first day I had it. I had an initial panic moment when they did it and grabbed brake on the right and full air on the left. Second panic moment came from grabbing air. Had to pull over and have a little WTF moment.
I was nervous when I bought the GSX-S that I'd have a hard time transitioning between the two. I had nightmares of when I'd switched my old bike to GP shift and then road a friends ST1100 and downshifted in a long corner instead of upshifting. However, I seem to transition back and forth with this with no issues.

You do have enfine breaking in DCT as well. As long as you don’t accelerate it will maintain the engine at the same year you put it with the paddle shift. And if you don’t want the engine to up gear when you accelerate, just switch instantly to manual gear change. Advantages of all worlds.
I'm thinking that if the Sportstouring market is as dead as our resident expert hppants says it is, Yamaha doesn't want another go round of splitting up it's models...some manufactured with DCT and some not.
I'd rather they not manufacture it with DCT if it results in Yamaha thinking the FJR is more trouble to mfr and sell than it is worth for them to make.
Looks like Honda is your ticket to DCT. I hear they have an ST1800.
I think the only thing you can expect from Yamaha is the current rash of quick shifters. Don't be too surprised if the 2020 FJR has one.... (BTW, they aren't going to sell a lot of '19's). Interestingly enough, was looking at the MT-10 on Yammy Canada, and even though it already comes with one, the quick shifter thingie is listed in the accessory section...... aftermarket ones are also available, along with electric solenoid shifters if you wanted such.
