Salt on roads signals the end of riding season for me.
Way too corrosive to make it worth riding.
Two bikes are already winterized with fuel stabilizer, etc.
I keep the third bike ready to ride till the salt gets used
then it’s off to slumberland as well.
Then the wait till spring rains begins.
Let’s hope it’s a shorter wait this time.

I guess there is some advantage to living in FL. There are very few days it's too cold to ride. Ice and snow never happen. Now wet and cold does happen a few days a year.

Funny thing winter is riding season for me. At least for longer day rides. We start off in the morning and often ride into the late afternoon. During the summer you have to be up at day break and head home by around noon. We tend to go on longer rides once the weather get's milder.

Our long trips happen in the late summer or fall, but that is because of my work schedule.

Put mine away a little over a week ago. Run two tanks of ethanol free gas then add Fuel Med at the last fill up. Ten plus mile ride home should flushed the untreated fuel out of the system. Change the oil while it's still warm and rear diff fluid as well. Put it in the corner, battery tender, top off the tank with treated ethanol free gas and sadly put the cover on for six months. This is always the saddest time of year for me, always wish I could have ridden one more day and more miles.

I prefer snow over freezing rain any day. Rode 16 miles in 4 inches of snow in OK City to get to work, December 1980.

Crash course in metric.

You know how big a millimeter is right?
Well a cm (centimeter) is 10 of those.
a dm (decimeter -uncommon to see) is 10 of those.
a m (meter) is 10 dm's.
a DM (DecaMeter - again rare to see) is 10 meters
a HM (HectoMeter - again, rare to see), is a 10 DM's.
and finally
a KM (KiloMeter) is 10 Hectometers.

Notice something? Their all factors of 10. So if you want to convert something, you only need move the decimal left or right. Metric is only a pain in the ass when you try to convert everything to 'standard'... .(Nice thing about standards, theirs so many to choose from).

Owned a small engineering company in Tampa in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Our very first job was for a roadway contractor, converting Florida DOT's metric plans into feet and inches because the contractor's construction and surveying equipment wasn't set up for meters.
