2019 FJR

Post by Hppants »

Well, it's that time again! Time for all FJR Forum-ites to have the annual discussion regarding the upcoming new model of our beloved motorcycle.

Revisiting the ultimate FAQs:

What color will it be?

How many gears will the tranny have?
(that's TRANSMISSION you bunch of holligans, not the other one...)

Will the headlights blink, wink, roll, or "other"?

And perhaps most commonly, what are we hoping to see in the 2019 FJR?

Regarding the latter, for myself, I'd like to see powdercoating replace the 1.25 whiffs of Krylon black paint that currently adorns the rims of any Gen 3 or 3.5 FJR.

I'd also like to see the word "Michelin" on the tire sidewalls, but alas, I fear that is too much to ask and besides, it's an easy fix at about 2,200 miles anyway.

I'm just hoping that it's NOT a Yellow/White/Black Kenny Roberts paint scheme or my budget will be FUBAR.

Could this be the year we finally get self cancelling turn signals?

https://safer-turn.com/ installed on mine. Works pretty well.

The real issue is that I've added everything that I want from the Gen 3 so there is no justification to get a new one. All I want is for them to continue making them in not hideous colors so that when the time comes to get a new bike, it'll be easy.

Mine too, brother. Or maybe DesignFlaw's tie-dyed one. I like that, actually. A lot.

Exactly. I hope they continue to build and ship them.

I can't get excited about the 2019. My 2013 should still be going strong. Didn't get a chance to put that many miles on it last year.

1. I would really like an ES, but not enough to trade.
2. A 6th gear would be nice, but not really needed.
3. The enhanced lighting is great, but I very rarely ride at night.
4. Most but not all colors grow on me. However them blue ones sure are pretty. Not going to trade for a color.

Honestly I am at a loss to think of anything they could do to make me trade in the next couple of years.

2020 or 2021 now that is the FJR I am waiting for.

Mine's not worn out yet. I figure maybe by the time the 2020 models are being sold used for $8K I'll be ready. And by "Ready" I mean this other bike in the garage will be paid off. :D

I can't look at new FJR, mine just broke 70KM ~ 43K. It's nearing the end of the break in and into the sweet spot that last way past 100K.

I would like to get the scrapes on my cowl and bag fixed. I'd also REALLY f@$king LOVE IT if my kids would stop kicking the saddlebags when they get on and off the bike. The alternative is that they don't ride anymore, I'm not good with that, so it falls into the I'll have to tolerate it category.

Hey! I get it!

6th apparatus = 6th gear (see? 'gear' translates as 'apparatus')
shoe grip = slipper clutch
grasp lever = clutch lever
(not sure why it isn't a 'grip' lever)

The writer disrespects us terribly, by calling the FJR a bicycle, albeit a Professional bicycle: "I can’t discuss a professional bicycle without specifying the upright riding position."

"This component is exceptionally valuable in urban and rural settings, however just hardly helpful on the open street." Urban and rural includes pretty much everywhere, doesn't it? So why is this feature "hardly helpful" on the open street if it's "exceptionally valuable" pretty much everywhere?

OK, done. It wasn't that much fun after all.

I have the 3M skin all over the bike including the leading edge/top of the panniers. Usually, the marks rub out with a little detailer and elbow grease. This last time, it was scuffed so hard that they will not rub out. Anyway, I know who did it, she won't be riding again this year (and this happened after I reminded them not to kick the bags)
