Feather edge on front tire..
The original front tire on my ‘17 has a raised centre area, with scallops down both sides..the tire has about 13,000km on it...Could this be a sign of a separated belt, or is it just a weird wear pattern?

Re: Feather edge on front tire..
Most tires now are dual compound, as in a harder center strip for wear resistance and a softer rubber compound on either side for better grip, traction, etc. What I assume you are witnessing is the "normal" wear pattern for this type tire. You don't specify the brand and model, however if you research that tire you probably see this dual compound technolgy

Normal, and exacerbated by braking as you turn into the corners on a big heavy bike.

8.000 miles on the stock front before scalloping? That mighty respectable.
Pitch that piece of crap and mount a decent tire. The bike is much better than you thought it was. Your welcome.

Do you know Bob?
He might be worse? His roads just may not offer the same friction and opportunities as others? I mean Bob might be the devil in disguise. I never judge someone by posts on the neenernet...I like to follow them in Arky, SE Ohio, or other straight flat, boring places before I make a pronouncement.

Don't know Bob, but I know Pants. I've followed him for more than a few miles, including Arky and I know he can hold his own on the straight flat and borings, and I can also understand why 5 or 6k is his general limit....
Btw Pants, sry for the offhanded comment, it was a toss up whether drag you or Wheats into it because I know how you both are. jsns I hope your back is doing better!

Re: Feather edge on front tire..
Thanks for the input...I’m just starting to feel comfortable throwing the bike into the very few corners we have here in Manitoba and 250km/hr is the fastest I’ve had it up to..The original stock front tire and the Michelin PR2 that are on the back will get me through this year as there are only 6-8 more weeks of riding left..Then I think a pair of Pirelli Angel GT’s will get mounted. My charming & delightful wife keeps suggesting that I make the pilgrimage east to CFR 2019, not sure about that, but if I do the Pirelli’s should do the trick.

The BT023s that came stock on my bike were toast by 3200 miles .......I am loving the new BT31s.
