Thanks, KJ, but...... my dad had a tenant who used his big shop. He had two Suzuki RE5's with the Vankel engine, ya! These pics from 2006...

Coworker of mine had one of those RE5 Suzuki's with a Vetter fairing. It's now in the Antique Auto Club Museum in Hershey, PA.

I'm hoping to test ride one of the new Motus V-4 powered sport tourers someday. Too rich for my blood but I like the idea and the styling.

Then a few minutes later, it was in the shop.....

It's from a 2014 w/13000 miles, looks nice and clean..... he shoots, he scores!
Clutch cover has a wee bit of rash, but I can take the old one off the '06 if the paint matches...... or leave it.

I was about to say Hey! Thats a Gen 3 motor. Careful with that. It'll turn the Gen 2 frame into a flexie mess.

Idjits, I'm freakin busy this year...... was supposed to go the east coast next week, landlady also decided to put in a geothermal heat pump system, now I'm going to be a landscaper for the next two years... cancelled the east coast trip.....
The original intent was not to touch it until perhaps September..... good news, I'm moving that date up, stay tuned for a progress report. Want to get it out of the trailer, and sell the trailer (7x12, V-nose all aluminum).

Try posting up on a Harley Forum, I hear trailers sell like hot cakes over there. 8-)

Seriously, Ray, all the best with the re-build.

As I occasionally remind my BIL, a diehard Harley owner, 90% of Harleys are still on the road, an amazing statistic.
The other 10% made it home.

So it's been a while, time to get this project on the road, NTXFJR's Blue Phoenix project got me fired up a bit more..... a buddy was visiting, so we pulled a couple of engine "baskets" out of the trailer, put the final drive and wheels back on, then uprighted her off the skid it was laying on.... snugged but didn't torque anything yet. That was a few days ago, so today, had to find the OEM brake/clutch levers (buddy took his Pazzos with him). I find that idjit mechanic had taken out a whole bunch of fasteners/parts he didn't need to (maybe he had a helper kid and told him to just take everything apart). So I have these boxes of mixed hardware, gotta find the brake/clutch lever pivot bolts and the brass bushing.. finally found the fasteners but no bushing.... had a new one in my stash. Wow, all that work just to have some front brakes... haven't found the rear brake lever parts yet... I just want the beatch mobile so I can get it on the lift. BTW, the FJR is surprisingly light without an engine and most of the plastic. So here's what she looks like now, ready to roll out of the trailer. No worries, boys and girls, she'll be a thing of beauty in a little while.........

It's been a busy year, but time to get on with this. Timing has changed due to other priorities, so the goal simply will be get this thing ready to sell in the early spring. First thing, need to take inventory and see what we got, organize the "baskets", re-pack into a dedicated storage rack. I am still very intrigued (pissed is more like it) why the Factory Certified Award-Winning mechanic (small 'm') went straight into total disassembly mode rather than determine logical cause of the hot starting problem/low compression. He did not do a leak-down, huge mistake, so then presented my friend the customer with a huge repair estimate way more than the bike was worth. Idjit. But I'm getting over it, you can't fix stupid sometimes. I will start another thread once I do some Forensic Analysis.

I started by laying out the contents of boxes to see what I had. Mostly engine... the rest is hoses, rad, misc. parts/fasteners, cosmetics. These will be staged for re-assembly... overall, this is worse than it looks, but getting better. So here we go, a few pics of the engine as I got it. Looks like all the parts are there if I want to put this back together.

Image

Image

Laid the stuff out, took some Forensic Pics, repacked it all away for later...... Here is the oil pan box, I just cringed, had a quick look, squirted a bit of fogging spray on it, taped it up and put it away. Nothing to see here, LOL.

Image

The box with the clutch in it, I cleaned out some non-related misc. parts, put this away too.

Image

So if I go get a new gasket set, shouldn't take more than a coupla nights work and we can get this back together..... anybody wanna help?

Nest step, report results of a cursory inspection and forensic analysis.... since there's a lesson to be learned that all of you can benefit by, I'll do that in a separate thread.........
Meanwhile, time to shuffle some things around in the shop and get the rolling chassis out of the trailer and onto the lift, get the engine all ready to go back in..... soon. I am going to post this up on FJROwners as well.
