Fork tube pinch bolts

Post by Intech »

I removed my forks today to service them. The top bolt of the lower fork brace was finger loose. WTF? I know i torqued them when i put the forks on the last time. I get to the right side and the bolt is gone! ! Double WTF!! Guess i will be checking them and other fasteners on a more regular basis.

I'm guessing the first one you torqued fell out. Or was the one that was loose.

The top one on the right side of the lower fork brace was the one that is missing. The left side was loose. I torqued all 6 of the bolts according to the manual. Will need to check everything on a more regular basis.

I just know if you torque a double pinch bolt clamp. First bolt to spec, second bolt to spec, first one is then loose because you moved the clamp with second bolt. I go back and forth till neither bolt moves. They have been tight every time I've done my forks. Front Axle pinch bolts are same because its a double bolt on gen 2? The top clamp you can torque and walk away.

I'm trying to picture what happens if all of then come loose. I guess one tube would break loose first and you wold feel some strange steering before the other one let go.
My wife asked me why I speak so softly around the house. I said that I was worried that someone was listening. She laughed, I laughed, Alexa laughed.
