Windshield screw cover
You know that little plastic cover that goes over top of your windshield screws. The one that's color matched and is about 3" wide and about 6" long. That's held on with one hidden screw?
Ya, that one.
Don't f@$k it up.
My local dealer lists them at $100.
Now, where did I put that epoxy.
Either way, your gonna need epoxy. Either to fix the part, or glue your ass back together if you buy the part.

Lets call shipping at $12 on the US side, and $12 on the Canadian side.
47 part
+12 shipping
=59 subtotal
+ 17.70 30% exchange rate
=76.70 subtotal
+12 Cdn shipping
=88
+ 11.53 13% HST/GST tax
= $100.23
Epoxy. $2.00.
(I show my 15 year old this calculation when she wants to order a $17 make up kit from Amazon.. and I'm an ASSHOLE! )

Re: Windshield screw cover
Your advice is about 10 (metric) months too late. Mine is now held on with the God-awfulest glue job you've ever seen on that little hidden tab. The ugliness is all underneath, but there's no way to remove it without destroying it.

Yeah you do. You know it. We know it. You're probably out buying a tube of epoxy to fix it as we speak! JSNS!gixxerjasen wrote:Geez, now I really don't want to upgrade my FJR.

Hey Jasen, just because ^^^^^^ Georgia Tech buzzing bee can't do epoxy to save his life means a more normal FJR rider is gonna have an issue with it.

LOL, piece o shit bike, hilarious!
Nah, I'm thinking maybe more of a 2020 model, in 2022.
Maybe mine'll be mostly worn out by then. Probably not.

Re: Windshield screw cover
With any luck at all, my FJR will have 85,000 miles on her by the year 2020. Not sure I'd want to trade her at that point; we'll both be broken in pretty good by then.

Re: Windshield screw cover
Mounting screw underneath. If it's the slightest bit cross-threaded, back it off and try again. Do not 'cut new threads'
The little tab the speed nut slides onto is way under-engineered for that kind of torque. It will snap off.
I'm gonna drill a suitable sized hole in some sheet metal, and cut out a small square with the hole in the center. Then epoxy it to the remaining portion of the tab. This is serious engineering bidness. I'll take some pics.
Honestly, its like their made to fly off never to be seen again. Even how the slide into the windshield. It should've been designed to slide the other way, at least if it was like that, the wind wouldn't get underneath to blow it off. But for a $100 each, I'm guessing it met the design criteria.

Re: Windshield screw cover
I can see it's underdesigned for sure. I'd mix up some plastic epoxy and build up the plastic tab where it joins the main part... i.e., make radii. It ain't the only place the tabs are weak.bungie4 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 7:55 amMounting screw underneath. If it's the slightest bit cross-threaded, back it off and try again. Yeah, he's just trying to game the Canadian tax system. Somewhere, some old guy just got his operation nixed for lack of money...all because Bungie gamed the system.

Re: RE: Re: Windshield screw cover
Point taken. Think about it, no Canadian lost their house or had their wages garnisheed because they couldn't pay a medical bill. $11.53 seems cheap in comparison.
