New NJ FJR13 Rider
Hi All,
I just purchased a 2013 FJR a few weeks back and only have about 600 or so on the odometer. I'm loving it...absolutely an amazing ride and unbelievable value having ridden so many competitors prior to making my final. I live in Northern NJ (Morris County) and work locally.
I'm looking to learn from others what upgrades/options/gear to purchase so I can outfit my riding experience with the best in style and comfort. Currently looking for a top case with rest on the back and possibly a seat upgrade. I find my riding position a little more forward than I'd like and I'm wondering if I should find bars that extend a little higher or at least further back.
I also find that I could use something to help soften the buzz I'm getting through the throttle and into my hand... it gets buzzed after about 10-15 to the point where I have to give it a quick rest by altering position or even putting cruise on for a minute. I guess I'm spoiled from having a Valkyrie in the past... that flat 6 was a smooth as butter.
I look forward to learning more and sharing what I know.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the bike. You've got lots of options for top boxes - Yamaha, Givi, and Shad seem popular. I'm a Sargent Seat fan - lots of miles on two of them between three FJR's. You can replace the top triple clamp with either a Helibars or MCL model to move the handlebars back a tad.

Searching for roads paved with Asphalt, unless I am riding the mighty DR650 bushpig.

Thanks Wayne, I've heard about the Helibars but not the MCL. Will check them both out. I like the appearance of the seat on Fairlaner's bike...just not sure what's most comfortable which is of course most important. Wish I could try em out first.extrememarine wrote:Welcome aboard and enjoy the bike. You've got lots of options for top boxes - Yamaha, Givi, and Shad seem popular. Thanks, lot's of extras available for this bike! I particularly like the idea of the ramped up lights for visibility.fontanaman wrote:Welcome aboard to the nut house. Let me be the first to help you spend your money by sharing all the farkles on my 2009.

Just wait for a while. Someone will have a tech meet or a ride near you. Go to it, there will be 15 FJRs there, all with different options. Ask around and people will let you sit on theirs. THEN make a decision about bars and seats.fjr13ride wrote:Thanks Wayne, I've heard about the Helibars but not the MCL. Will check them both out. My wife asked me why I speak so softly around the house. I said that I was worried that someone was listening. She laughed, I laughed, Alexa laughed.

Re: New NJ FJR13 Rider
Thanks for the notice Geezer. I don't think I'll be able to make this one but will keep my eyes and ears open for ways to meet other FJR riders in my area. Just in case I can get out for part of a day, how would I locate you?Geezer wrote:Welcome. The route is posted over on that other forum. We'll be having lunch at the Roscoe Diner so that might be a good place to meet us.

Re: New NJ FJR13 Rider
Just saw your post. I'm a transplanted Jersey guy and lived in Morristown among other NJ locales. Also had a Valk Interstate before the FJR, well that and a few other bikes. Anyhow, I've got my '08 gently farkled out and it's been across the country from coast to coast so I guess you could say the farkles have been pretty well road tested. Let me know if you're riding out my way in the Bethlehem PA area. Would be happy to meet up. Good luck with the new bike!
