So I am an old man and new 2008 FJR 1300 AE owner and hopefully rider.
Started riding in spring 2011 on a 2006 Honda Silverwing Maxi-scooter after getting my license by taking the beginners safety course. After 3 days in a parking lot as an intro to motorcycles they said I was qualified to ride the highway ... I figured that working the clutch and keeping upright didn't work for me so I started with a maxi-scooter - twist the throttle and go from 0 to 95 with RPM to spare... So I have about 8500 miles on my Silverwing. But the highway ride has some vibration and the wheels are small... I want(ed) to work my way up to changing gears without having to use a clutch. I was looking at Hondas with automatic transmission but when I sat on an FJR AE it felt so right I started looking at buying one. I figure I can at least learn to change gears and will learn to work a clutch sometime in the future.
My bike is a 2008 FJR 1300 AE that I got in April 2013 with 824 miles on it. I changed the oil, filter and rear oil and Fredericktownyamaha changed the coolant, break fluid and gave it a blessing and MD inspection papers. They even said that I don't need to change the brake lines despite the Yamaha owners manual saying to replace them every 4 years. The bike was garaged so no UV damage to the tires and rubber.
After 40 miles on the bike I am really impressed and can see it being a long distance tourer for me. The bike came with a Helibar triple clamp and I already received the risers I bought - they came 3 days after I ordered them! I also have Racing905 crash bars front and rear on order though it will be a few weeks to get them. Bike also has side cases but no top case... though I have a bag.
Phew. So more than you wanted to know... Not sure how often I will be here with silly questions - probably monthly after the initial honeymoon...
And I got the nickname Ishkatan when I was 6....
