ABS test coupler 90890-03149

Post by CollingsBob »

The ABS test coupler 90890-03149 is no longer available in North America...however it is still available in the U.K.. I have contacted a Yamaha dealer in Edinburgh who will bring some in for me. The cost is about $15.00CDN each.

I can bring some to Nakusp..pm me if you are interested.

I'd be interested...but griff would have to bring it back to me...as he's going and I'm not.

Failing that, all you need is a jumper wire to short two pins together, that is all the ABS test coupler is. I've got a procedure written over in the 'Evil Empire Forum'. I'll fetch a link for it shortly.

Link.

You might want to bring the post over here rather than just the link for posterity sake. JSNS.

I ordered a few connectors from Eastern Beaver, comes with terminals, and made mine so it has spade terminals to connect a switch. I mounted it under the battery cover, so all I have to do is reach in and flip the switch if I'm in there. Gen3 has room to put stuff under there.
I made another to take to tech days..... I can make a batch if I get some more connectors, have not dug into costs.....
But those on a budget, jumpering the terminals in the original connector is pretty easy like Allan says. Sky blue to black.

I would definitely check these to make sure the wires aren't upside down.

With that, each coupler will have the ABS test pins jumped together to enable the ABS tests. It also will have two wires onto which you clip a multi-meter and read pulses to count out error codes. This is one time where an old school multi-meter is superior to a digital multi-meter.

Thanks! I will need to find a Yank going to CFR to mail it to me. I think Cav47 is headed up that way. I'll have him pick it up and mail it.

Time to pm cowface.

I have a spare..... meanwhile, on Gen3, the two wires to jump are the black and Sky Blue with silver/gray tracer.

So...just a thought...

Most Japanese made automotive products use the same types of connectors. I contend that a trip to the local pick-a-part with a picture of the dummy plug on your cell phone could net you a fairly inexpensive and fully compatible pigtail.

With said pigtail, one could wire in a momentary on push button switch and an LED with appropriate resistor in the correct circuits. Then, one could mount them in an inconspicuous location amd perform ABS diag with the push of a button and read the blinks for codes.

Worth a try?
There's just too much what the f@$k in this thread to know where to begin...

From another dimension in space & time this has been detailed here. A standard LED with wire legs and a 100Ω resistor in series for the code pins is a real good idea.

I'll get to it, I need to do some updates. Spring is busy with home construction, winter recovery and...... it's racing season! Busy burning all the rubber off this car at the track right now. (The hood is open to help cool the engine for the next round, in theory a cooler intake will make more power.)
