Re: Vintage Project - RD250
When you see a dood, or a chick, or a dood-chick, riding an old twin, usually a CX500 (twisted duck), and their wearing one those tragically cool open faced helmets with a bubble visor and enormous gold metal flake paint jobs, black skinny jeans, high tops, a plaid lumberjack shirt, ya, THAT GUY. Get the f@$k away from him. He will either crash going in straight line (brake failure, chain break, axle imploding or just lack of skill), or, they will lose major components from their bike. Like. the frame, or exhaust system, which will bounce down the highway, and, take you out with them.
Luckily, these jackwagons don't ride for very long, either they get killed, maimed or otherwise scarred for life in 'the incident', or, their bike breaks down in an effort to protect them, and itself from the ham handed, cheap raping they will receive in the name of being 'cool'.
Just stay away from them. Trust me on this. But please do help them out whenever possible by enlightening them about the benefits of speed holes drilled through the frame and the like. Just get them out of the gene pool whenever possible.,

Nope. Well unless that emotional connection is built on disgust. Truth be told, I know a few of them because they always want to ride with me. f@$k. off. Trust me, I will ditch you so fast your head will spin. My idea of a ride isn't riding around in circles downtown with open pipes, then going for an $12 coffee at some ethically sourced, artisinal coffee shop. f@$k. off. Your coffee is worth more than your piece of crap bike. But not more than the product currently in your hair. The whole time trying to out-cool one another with shit ppl gave up on 45 years ago.

Re: Vintage Project - RD250
Update - February 10th, 2018.
Gasket set for fuel petcock arrived earlier in the week. I installed it and put the petcock back on the tank. I put a gallon of gas in the tank and sloshed it around and dumped it. Another gallon in and ran hoses from the petcock to a bucket and let fuel flow from the petcock. Looks functional.
I drained the crankcase oil, filled it with 2 quarts of Rotella (I know, way over filled), pulled the spark plugs and rolled the motor over, working the shifter through the gears. Drained that oil out to flush it and then slowly refilled until the oil level showed on the dipstick.
A shot of starting fluid in each carb and on the second kick, I got this.
Rough, but there is life in this little scooter...

Re: Vintage Project - RD250
You nailed it. Tires, Tubes, chain & sprockets, and a google search for proper carb settings after I confirm the oil injection pump is functioning.

Re: Vintage Project - RD250
raYzerman,
From my Yamaha 2-stroke experience, I strongly recommend a water separator between the oil tank and the oil pump. The one I made could be completely filled with oil (no air) each time, before I installed it. The end of the outlet tube just needs to be near the top inside of the container, and very close to one side of the container. Use a thick glass container, installed in a padded clamp inside the bike.

Best wishes on this project bike.
Cheers,
Red
P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.
Yeah, I ride motorcycles. I know why dogs put their heads out of the car windows.
Yeah, I fly hang gliders (3000 hrs.+). I know why the birds sing.
