Gen 3 Aux Switch Locations?
Completing BeemerDon's Naomi build... getting close. Installing Clearwater lights, 2 switches, 1 aux tank fuel pump switch, 2 switches that kill one headlight hi and lo beam.
Now where to locate the switches? On the gen 3 there truly isn't much flat surface with room underneath available. Looks like the Carrington switches are not an option.
Have some smaller form switches and am currently playing the placement game.
If you have any pix of your gen 3 switch locations, please post up?
I've decided to not drill anything until tomorrow.
TIA

Made my own dash shelf from 1.5" & 2" aluminum angle, and another between the handlebars mounted on the Helibar bridge (can also do steering stem nut if you want). Can hold switches or anything.....

I've wanted to put a few things in here, because I think it's hollow. May not be easy to get wiring up there, however.

Re: Gen 3 Aux Switch Locations?
Thanks for the good ideas guys! ClearWater lights have two big-assed relays with lots of ugly heat shrink... The Sevina relay is approx 5 inches long overall? Just a guess. Got a lead from Brodie in the other box but apparently it won't work on an FJR.. http://www.pmrcomponents.com/pmrweb_045.htm
Today I'll take one last look then commence to drilling...

Design Flaw did something really cool with his music player switch. It is basically a flat panel that he made. May have been a 3D printer piece. It was very ingenious and seamless integration. Tim is a great guy who has been very helpful in anything I have ever asked.

Re: Gen 3 Aux Switch Locations?
Not sure how to post pics, but I have my voltmeter and aux light switch on the very left of the dash (in the red circle above). My aux lights are tied into the high beams with a skene controller, so the switch is just to turn them off totally. So the fact that the location isn't ideal doesn't bother me as I don't turn them off very often. The voltmeter is angled away from me slightly and partially blocked by the handlebars, but I can see it if I shift my head a little. I couldn't find a better place to put them. PM me your email address if you would like some pics.

Re: Gen 3 Aux Switch Locations?
Theirs less room behind the Gen III boobs than you think. You need to be VERY careful before drilling anything in there.

I also made this for him:
Dimmer control for whatever lights he was going to put on his bike. The PWM controller is the black box to be stashed somewhere and then the knob was fitted to the handlebars. It's hard to see, but that attaches with zip ties that go around the arc of that piece. Sorry I don't have a better picture. Both housings were 3D printed. Maybe Cav has a better picture of it installed.......oh wait..

I need the light brackets before I (YOU) install the dimmer. Once I get the brackets, ( A guy is getting me some) I will buy the lights. It is a process and you have to "trust the process"
I am excited to get it rolling, but there are other irons in the fire too.
Hopefully Don can use something like what you made. It is stealthy and slick for sure. Especially with ability to put the unit(that would take up space) somewhere else.

I need to bug A guy then. Just giving you a hard time. I know you're waiting for Tech Day. Enough time passes and I forget you're waiting for something else, so I just blame you.Cav47 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2018 11:11 am Not gonna thread jack this but for a min.

The advantage of the Gen 2 is that cutout was already there for the Bluetoooth adapter. I don't know what I'll do for music control if I get a Gen 3. WynPro made the bracket for my cruise control. I believe it is designed to fit either side and it would be relatively easy to replace the cruise control pad portion with something made for switches.
I can't find any pictures, but what is in the location where the cutout was on the Gen 2? Is it painted fairing, or more of that black trim stuff. If there's room there with just the black tim, something could be done. Depends on the contour of it, but it could look halfway decent with a printed part.

Re: Gen 3 Aux Switch Locations?
That DesignFlaw doode has mad skilz! And Bungie is right, the Gen3's have lot's less room and flat surfaces than Gen2. I would cut and paste from my CandyButtOrg website, but the two don't play nice together so if OK I'll post my Sevina-Erica ClearWater link here - https://candybuttorg.ipage.com/cba/node/583#comment-691

Drilling into the painted pieces is not my style. I don't have the confidence in doing that, so kudos to you. It looks pretty clean.
