Nothing Last Forever, But I Can Still Hope....

Disclaimer: This is stupid. I know it and I'm going to get over it. I just thought I would share it with ya'll.

Everyone has their own taste, likes, and dislikes. That applies to beer, whiskey, TV shows, shirts, and everything in between, including motorcycles.

For Pants, at present time, I honestly think that my current '14 FJR is my absolute favorite. I've had enough of them to know what I like. I've had other FJRs, including another red one that met it's unfortunate demise on a bad day in Colorado. But for some reason, THIS current bike is better than even that one. It shifts better, idles smoother, etc.

Also, and again, I'm being biased, but the red just does it for me. It's just gorgeous. I LOVE this bike.

At the rate I'm riding, I know she won't last forever, but I sure hope it does. Maybe in a few years, the 202x FJR will be just as gorgeous to me and I'll move on. Or maybe something else will come along and tickle my fancy. But what if it doesn't? I know that I can ride and FJR for 200,000 miles cause I've seen many of you do it.

I've even had thoughts recently about picking up another '14 FJR with low miles and mothballing it for the future. Like I said... this is stupid....

Who knows what will happen? But in the meantime, I sure hope my current bike last a LONG LONG time.....

Pants, I get it. Though not red, but I get it. If you can swing it, buying another '14 sounds like a way to go. I would keep it in a climate controlled room though, because it could be a very long time before you would need it.

Buy the latest FJR when if they discontinue it and mothball that. You can always paint it red. Certainly a better option than sitting on a bike that's already 4 years old.

But I get what you're saying. I'll have a brand new FJR the next day if something ever happens to mine.

It just solidifies a purchase when you feel like this. It's a good feeling and you now know you have put your hard earned cash in the right place.

Not stupid, but you may like a 2020 FJR even more!

I feel like time is running out on my 2014. Coming up on the 65,000 mile oil change. Plan has always been to sell it and buy another bike when it hits the end of Y.E.S. I think I’ll enjoy running it up to 110,000 or so before it is retired via sale.

Maybe that was just some existential BS too.

Maybe I feel he same way about Halle. But I am not buying another 15. I have hopes for a 2021 Artic White FJR. If that happens, Halle will be down he road. But until then she is certainly my favorite.

I bet it's the shampoo bottle.

You might find that when you finally wear out your present FJR, then your (proposed) mothballed FJR may be too old to get parts, also. You may be able to scrape by with some used items from eBay, but complex electrical failures such as instruments or ECU may spell the end of both bikes, without factory parts.

Just a thought.

When I got back into motorcycles I bought a Concours and thought it was a good bike, When I replaced my 06 Concours with my 07 FJR1300AE I thought I had the greatest bike. When I replaced my 07 FJR1300AE with a 08 FJR1300AE I thought I had the greatest bike in an even better color with a smoother throttle. When I replaced my 08 FJR1300AE with a 13 FJR1300A I thought I had the greatest bike made. When I replaced my 13 FJR1300A for a 14 FJR1300ES I thought I had the greatest bike with an improved cruise control and a great color. Then Yamaha came out with the 2016 in blue, with a six speed and cool lights and now I lust after those.

The moral of the story is, there will always a better, sexier, faster, more capable bike coming down the pipeline. Enjoy your bike and stop worrying about when it ends, and start thinking about the possible greatness of the next bike.

My favorite bike is my 03 Fjr until I ride my 16 S10 and then that bike is my favorite because I can stretch my arms and legs. Then I ride my 2010 690r and the little thumper is my favorite bike until I get on the fjr throttle again

Pants, do you know SkooterG? That ass-clown had like 4 2004s at one time. I think he finally moved on to ONE of them because his original was pretty work at like 225k. Then he ended up with an '08, and he'll never get around to riding the last few 04s. Even giant tortoises don't live long enough for that.

By the time this one wears out, a new one will be calling your name...

Yamaha keeps improving the FJR and motorcycles in general keep getting better. As much as I loved my '04 ST1300 I love my '15 FJR ES that much more. Pop says the same about his "new" '14 FJR, it is a much better bike to ride than his beloved and crashed '07.

Do you remember your astonishment at how much better the '14 was than your wonderful '05 when we did that Demo Ride? Imagine what improvements will be made next?

I bet if you really lusted after an '05 we could find you one with less miles than the one you traded away for your '14. That option may exist for the '14 some day too.

Hell, by the time you are ready for another bike you may be wanting to go lighter like our friend Mike. That BMW R1200RT is a helluva nice ride and is much lighter. Who knows what the future will bring? Don't get hung up in the past.
