Re: The Official 2018 Calendar Contest Thread
By far, the most challenging riding I've ever done in my life out there this summer. Some of it was doable on the FJR (like the second shot, smooth gravel road between Tin Cup and Taylor Park) Tin Cup Pass - No f'ing way a street bike was going down that crap.
I think that shot (#2) has some blur to it that might not make for a good calendar shot.

Of course if Wayne had really wanted to show us how tough he was he would have ridden the FJR up there in that dirt and rock world.

Number 2 is epic. Great foreground and epIc backdrop.
On another note, those shots along with a few others off rise stuff is making me want to stick my foot into the dirt.

I have a 120mb .tiff file, that email says is too big. Options?
If I convert it to .jpg, it will become 10mb, but also have quality loss.

Yep an early submission would have been nice and prevented missed votes.DesignFlaw06 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2017 8:37 am Contest ends December 10th. I'll have something ready to order a couple days later. First place gets a free calendar.
You can submit up until then, but rankings are determined by a combination of score and number of votes. It helps to get your submission in early.

Convert to a jpg, and use that for the contest, then use a file share to send the tiff for printing. Quality loss won't matter much to these guys when looking at a smaller version for voting.

Exactly, because I'm going to shrink it down even more for the website. I use the original files when I'm creating the calendar images.gixxerjasen wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2017 11:29 pmConvert to a jpg, and use that for the contest, then use a file share to send the tiff for printing. And how does Redfish have more votes than everyone else? I got Wayne's picture up last night and he could use some votes.

Simple. The pic is not of ME. The pic is of POP and folks like him. No one with any sense would have voted for a pic of me.DesignFlaw06 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2017 9:17 am And how does Redfish have more votes than everyone else? I got Wayne's picture up last night and he could use some votes.
I don't really care about winning, I just don't want that d**n Cav47 guy to beat me. If y'all could vote someone up to get between me and Cav, that would be much appreciated. Cav's bike is just ugly.

The only reason my bike is ugly when you are looking at it is because you are seeing your reflection in it.

I wasn't getting at your rating. It's a damn fine picture, regardless of who it is. I was questioning that you have 2 more people that have cast a vote for your picture. It just means there are 2 people who voted for you and nobody else.Redfish wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2017 2:44 pmSimple. The pic is not of ME. The pic is of POP and folks like him. Maybe Redfish should be disqualified and the next contestant moved up!
Certainly sarcasm. It is a great picture! More likely, someone voted early, forgot to log back on and has not voted for anyone else yet. (kinda like the Chicago way of voting.....early and often)

Re: The Official 2018 Calendar Contest Thread
I'm smelling what Tim is cooking. It would seem to me that all of the pictures should have the same number of votes. Everyone should vote for all of the pictures, and the 12 highest rated pictures overall would make the cut.
As for the Redfish picture, well - it's a dam fine picture. Perhaps IMO the very best of the ones submitted. The viewer puts him/herself in the mind of the photographer and we are there, or more accurately, we wish we were there.

Re: The Official 2018 Calendar Contest Thread
I like them all. The Important Thing is that each one represents one or more of US out riding.
My submission represents many things depending on who is looking and what they are feeling. Certainly the '14 Red FJRs are some of the most photogenic of the FJR breed and the sunlight was lighting it up beautifully in that pic. The snow covered Sierra Nevada Mountains in the background add a backdrop of perfection. The edge of the helmet and the shoulder of the jacket add a frame to the pic that along with the "over the shoulder" shot and the movement help make it special in many ways.
But none of that mattered when I took that pic. That pic was all about Pop still riding just a few months after a nearly fatal crash. That pic was all about the fact that Pop has always had my back and always pushed me into situations and adventures that expanded my horizons.
The fact that my friend hppants had given me the camera tether and the coaching to make the pic possible are icing on the cake.
If that is too much existential bullshit for this thread... I am not apologizing. I knew when I took that pic that if it came out it was my Calendar Photo for this year.
It is significant to me that I heard several different folks at YFO mentioning "calendar pics". This calendar is a Big Deal.

I can't answer for everyone else but I can say that I voted immediately for some pics and I waited for a long while on others. There were a few that had a WOW!!! Factor for me and others that I had to think about. Since I did not want to cast a "negative" vote for any of the pics, I had to sit and ponder them for a while.
In the end I realized that I needed to rate them all so that the voting could be evened out fairly. If other folks are doing as I was, some pics are getting votes while other pics are not. It isn't deliberate, I didn't really consider that before.
On another note... I may need to change one of my votes. I see that Yamafitter has closed the gap and I am in danger of losing my free calendar. I cannot tolerate that. I may need to change my vote for his pic down to a One Star rating.
