Since the nut is aluminum, I'd recommend using a six point socket. I got mine on Amazon. You'll also need a 3/8" or 1/2" drive breaker bar to loosen, and a torque wrench to tighten. While your at it, you can add the RAM ball stem nut from Motorcycle Larry like I did. Great for mounting a GPS or phone!

Thanks.

I have a 3/4" set I use for the stem nut. But I have something else in mind...

Just a suggestion:

Place a piece of paper over the nut before you put the socket on it. It will prevent most of the scratching/tool marks on the soft aluminum nut.
Never run out of real estate, traction and ideas all at the same time.

If you add the version with the RAM Ball, you will also find a 36mm Deep Impact Socket useful. That is about $10 on eBay.

The deep socket will clear the ball and allow you to undo and tighten the nut without removing the ball. That RAM Ball is impossible to remove if you have risers because you can't get a wrench on the flats without removing the handlebars first. DAMHIK

You'll thank me one day :D
