Pilot Power 2CT

Post by Intech »

Who has experience with this front tire? I am stuck with one as that is what Rocky Mountain ATV sent me instead of a PR2. I am heading for Yosemite Friday morning. Will this tire last?

You would think a 2CT would last that mileage since 90% will be easy miles. But what do I know?

Great mountain tire. But you may be changing a tire.

I think I will put the T-30 EVO back on. It has about ~800 miles on it.

I don't think the Pilot Power 2CT is what you want...... I'd return it. From what I read it is more of a sporty tire, softer compounds and won't last for the riding you're intending. The T-30 EVO is also going to be somewhat softer than the PR2. The PR2 is a long wearing tire with harder compounds and you should go with what you know. You're on the right track....

I know the PP2 is not what I want. I will see if I can find any PR version. Was never happy with the PR3, but if that turns out to be the only one I can find.....

PR2 or PR4 (PR3's were replaced pretty quickly by Michelin). PR4 is a very cushy tire (nice for slab), great in the rain. But feels slow after they wear in a bit, still, a better choice than the PR3.

I wouldn't worry to much over the PP2. It won't go away in 3K unless your stuffing into corners hard. Its no different than having an Angel or Avon on their. Hell, Fjrob ran race slicks down to NC and back without any issues (other than it throwing pebbles at whomever <cough> happened to be behind him at the time)

What's the total distance you figure for this trip, 6 or 7k miles?

...Says the person not taking a coast to coast trip.

So he gets to the fun roads finally and he's supposed to "be good"? WTF...sure, you could baby that thing all the way there and all the way back..maybe..if it's not too hot, and if he doesn't mind a quicker wearing tire. But what's the point in this epic ride if you can't really...UM...RIDE!!!???

:D :D

Have a great ride Bob, et al. Take lotsa picherz!...but no selfies, PLEASE.

Google says sub 6000 miles return to VA. A PP rear, ya, you'd probably have a problem. On the front, doubtful. But seeing how he has some time to source another tire.. ya. Do it.

Hey, your right. Pays your money, takes your chances.

Bungie, yer likely right. My factor of safety is higher than yours as I hate changing tires during my fun time...so I usually ride slicks if necessary...but I don't even wanna think of that while ripping around in Kali.

I got my hands on a PR4. It is out sunning right now to soften up. I figure the trip to be in the 6-7K range. Just wasn't going to take a chance on the Pilot Power.

You will like them in VA, WV, NC and TN whenever you use them.

The Redfishes and hppants are running PR4s for this trip. Both red (pink) bikes will start with almost no miles, the gray bike has 800 miles in the PR4s.

I always get at least 9K out of PR3s or PR4s so I am not worried at all.

For the record the trip total was 7322.9 and both tires held up nicely. Still a couple K left in both. Also for the record HRZ, the T-30 EVO's had less than 900 miles on them. I just refuse to take off on a long trip with a tire I have no history with. I will remount them and see what I get. Joe's new roadsmarts held up nicely also.
