"Glovebox" Lock Malfunction

Post by clocklaw »

I have experienced an issue with my lock on the "glovebox" on my 05. I assume that others have experienced this in the past so I am curious if anyone has tried to disassemble it and fix it...if so, where are the pictures and if not, where do I go from here? For me, the lock malfunctioned in the middle of nowhere yesterday with my Givi key locked in it. I was able to force it open but now the latch is pushed in and will not catch the clasp.

Any help would be appreciated.

Of course, been using it all weekend. I had my spare key in there and my Givi box key (because the battery was acting up) so I could get in the luggage with out shutting the bike off. I don't know whats up but it will not latch any more.

Mine has been flaky since the day I bought it. Sometimes it works perfectly, other times I have to pry it open. I only use it for my air pressure gauge anyway so no big deal. It seems to be something that Yammie dropped the ball a bit on as far as engineering goes.

when you pried it open, you probably broke the mechanism underneath. You can disable the auto lock solenoid by removing it - then the glove box will open anytime (will not be locked).

You'll probably have to take the glove box out of the bike, look at the pieces to figure out which is broken. My spare is gone, otherwise I'd offer it up...

+1 on this,
Mine would not open when my ignition switch failed . It was a total paint to get open without breaking it, so once open I removed the solenoid .

Well, it appears broken, can't figure out what is missing. Trying now to figure out how to get it back together and closed.

Ok, parts were missing so I had to engineer a solution. Here is what I did:

First, I removed both springs that lift the lid. That makes it naturally fall closed. Then, I added the bolt as shown:

The end result is this:

I think it'll work at least for a while. Going for a ride so I will update later.
