Replacing Gen 3 emergency flasher button assembly?
I have had ongoing issues with my emergency flasher button sticking on. I have lubricated it and it still continues to stick, so I am contemplating replacing it. Just wondering if anyone has replaced this item on a Gen 3. It's a separate attachment on the right handle bar with a plug that connects somewhere in the bike innards, but I don't know exactly where it connects. I have YES so I can get it replaced at a dealer, but I would prefer to get the new part and replace it myself, since I don't have a lot of faith in the local dealer.

Not sure where the right switch connects, but the left one has a connector in the nose. Remove windshield, front dash panel and the "vent panel" on top of the nose. There are two screws as you look at if from the front, and it unsnaps off the top of the instrument panel. Bottom line, you should be able to follow the wire harness, and if it leads to a path under the instruments and forward, the connectors are likely in the nose. On Gen3 the instrument cluster is a computer of sorts, and has the flasher function built into it.

May have to replace the whole switch pod assy? What Ray said, connections for the left side switch harness are up in the nose. I'd bet the right side goes to the same place. 15 minutes will get you in there.

Switch is relatively cheap. I may just take loose the switch assembly and see if can clean it out and get it functioning properly. No way this bike is going near the dealer here.

Good idea, I was going to suggest you go in and see if the original switch can be cleaned up. No way it should have failed yet...........

Re: Replacing Gen 3 emergency flasher button assembly?
Well it's not that old, but has 83K on it. Button engages, but does not release when pushed in. If I take my fingernail and push on the edge of the button and let it spring back up it will release. Maybe a lot of gunk in there, I don't know. So, as you described above - I can take a look under the nose by following your directions above? And this is on a Gen 3, right? The front dash panel you refer to is the black piece I removed when getting at mirror mounts, right?

On a Gen III there is a space in the nose between the gauges and the headlights with several harness connections. This pic was taken when I was accessing the left side turn signal switch assy connections to install the auto turn signal cancel unit.

Just so you know, the arrow on the STS unit should point forward, not sideways.

I stand corrected. Fuggin' retired guys. The last two years have been all time lows for me as far as seasonal mileage goes. I'm so ashamed.

This unit works very well, it doesn't appear to have made a difference in this case.

Griff is a big-mileage animal .... so, Griff, why are you using the emergency flasher so often that you've broken it?

Must be that permanent rally mode parking that did it in.

Actually, I haven't used it much. Almost never in the last few months, since I can't get the damn thing to shut off.

I'm guessing on the sidewalk and right lane of every city in the U.S....during rush hour.

Don't need flashers if you're parked on the sidewalk.

If my flashers will prevent PEDESTRIANS from crashing into my bike .... well, I must be in the drinking part of town.
