Nope. Looks like the bottom bar is right in the way of removing the oil filter though.

Just put a set of T-Rex Racing on Dad's '14. They look wonderful and offer better protection than those with a replaceable puck for about $20 more.

Thanks redfish, I will look them up. Just like to explore my options before dropping $300 on canyon cages. Plus almost $200 more for the bag protectors. But they do look very nice.

And the T-rex only lists as working on the GenIII. Not the GenII.

Damn. Sorry, should have read your signature line.

There is a lot better crash protection offered for the Gen3. I apologize for misleading you.

The bag protectors offered by MC Enterprises for the Gen2 work very well. You are sort of limited to frame sliders on your Gen2.

We used the OES Extended Length sliders and they did okay.

I had Crazy Iron cages on my Ex's ctx. they were fine. not premo, fantazimo, but would get the job done economically

If you're gonna do that, I'd suggest saving until you can afford the Canyon Cages. They're decent kit!

They are good for the Gen3 but unless they have done something new their offerings for the Gen2 are not as nice.

I heartily endorse Canyon Cages. After I purchased my 13...and seeing them on Jim and Iris' bikes, I purchased them. Spendy, but they paid for themselves on a hard 0 mph drop on a steep gravel campground road at Hungry Mother(fucker) State Park.

No bag damage, nada...extremely minor front fairing damage, this on a hard drop way past horizontal. Mirror was still functional but wobbly. But no guard is gonna save the FJR mirrors.

Actually, I recently had a zero speed drop on the left side with Canyon Cages front and rear. It rolled past horizontal and scratched the left mirror, broke something inside it that made it loose AND put some nicks in my upper fairing. It doesn't take much for it to reach the tipping point.

Not happy! Luckily, the CC's did absorb enough of the impact that the mirror mounting flange inside the fairing didn't crack. This is also part of the track the windshield slides up and down in...$$$?

If you want to save your mirrors and upper fairing, there are three options I know of:

1. Install T-Rex cages (as I've done now). The tubing diameter is slightly smaller than the CC's (but still very strong and mounts securely), but it has a replaceable slider puck that is mounted high up above the engine mount bolt and it sticks out (unlike the CC), plus the tubing extends vertically to protect the fairing if it does roll over.

So, I'm pretty sure it will prevent the FJR from rolling over past horizontal again (but I hope I never have to test it).

BTW, options 1 & 2 allow you to mount highway pegs on the tubes.

Also, for those short of leg, I highly recommend the Daytona M-Star GTX boots which make your legs longer. I have a pair and they are expensive, but very high quality. Or, you can go to a shoemaker and have a wedge added between your boot soles to add height. I've done that before.

My experience is the T-Rex will not prevent going over horizontal either, and have broken my mirror stay twice (repaired with epoxy). If the sliders stuck out more, or were higher, it would help. Highly recommended if you have the CC's. FZ1 mirrors fold up easier/closer and MAY save you from cracking the super-fragile mirror stay. There are no guarantees.....

Oh crap, thanks for the warning! I wonder if the CC's with Garauld's frame slider would stick out further? Anybody have this setup and would measure distance from left engine case "Yamaha" and tell us?

Thank you. Yes, but I'd like to compare the absolute measurement (from a fixed point on the engine, say the case (left or right), not the relative measurement (how long Garauld's sliders are). Both the CC's and T-Rex bars fit at a different distance from the engine cases and fairing due there having different tube bends and diameters and slightly different mounting points.

So the only way I can see to compare apples to apples is to get an accurate measurement of how far each sticks out total. Another way might be to drop a plumb line straight down from the widest point of each and make a mark on the ground on both sides of bike. Then measure the total width, with obviously the solution providing for the widest measurement theoretically to provide the best protection. Of course for accuracy, the bike would have to be on the center stand.

That way, we could all find out which sticks out the furthest...CC's with G's sliders OR T-Rex, so we could buy the one solution that would seem to provide the best tip over protection. It's too expensive to buy and try both. Comments, suggestions, volunteers? I'd be happy to measure my T-Rex setup, so we just need someone who has the Canyon Cages mounted with Gaurald's frame sliders. Anyone?

So, if we could have one person with each of the two mounted to do some measurements and post them here, those of us contemplating purchasing could make an informed decision.

I just did the T-Rex cages with the pucks on Dad's bike as well as their excellent bag protectors. As much as I like the MC Enterprises stuff, I like the T-Rex better.

I wouldn't sweat it too much, I think they're all going to have the same result in any tipover that has any kind of momentum to it. Pick what looks or feels best to you and go with it. What you really want is the police protection bars that you can't get and are uglier.

Yep, you're probably right. I saw a guy on an older AE (auto-clutch) with the police bars, and even though I'm sure it gave the best protection, I'd be embarrassed to ride it that way.
