Does the adaptor work only on the '16, or will it work on previous Gens?

'16 and on only. Earlier models are not OBDII compliant.

Prior Gen3's have (I think) the same plug, but it's for the official Yamaha Special Tool (CD, adapter harness, laptop), which you must be a registered dealer to use....... us joe's are out of luck. It would allow data logging, monitoring, etc. on all Gen3's... one day there will be a hack.... but the kit costs ~$600.
